The 5th annual Virginia Studio Tour Day for Senior Thesis + MA Capstone students took place on April 8th this year. Students, faculty, alumni and guests went to @candelabooksandgallery, @1708gallery, @agonybooks, @visible_records and more! Students ended up at the home/studio of faculty member @matteich for tacos and s’mores before heading back to D.C. It was a whirlwind day! by @corcphoto

And so it begins … the first few Senior Thesis students started installation this week for the forthcoming NEXT Festival. Don’t miss opening night, Thursday, April 24th. It will be a beautiful building filled with art and hopes and dreams. Please join us if you can! by @corcphoto

We’re back from break, and the Spring Semester is hitting full sprint mode. This week @matteich’s Photobook class visited the Rare Book Collection at the National Gallery of Art, thanks to Special Collections Librarian, Yuri Long (@yurilong)! Also, @corcphoto professor Em White (@_slowmedown) put up a lovely pop-up exhibition of her cyanotype work in Smith Hall of Art, Room 207 to share with her alt-process students. IYKYK.

Good luck with all your creative endeavors in the coming days, @corcphoto crew! by @corcphoto

A bit delayed as their show closed last month but check out our last MFA Thesis Graduates exhibit in Gallery 102! 🍌🌗✈️

Caroline Casey is a visual artist who utilizes found imagery and archives to grapple with themes of memory, family and conflict in order to question our understanding of these structures. In her thesis exhibition The Flying Ace and The Radio Boy, Casey manipulates images from her relatives on either side of WWII with alternative photographic practices such as cyanotypes on flags and chlorophyll prints on banana leaves. Poetry carved into slabs relief from the wall give deeper insight to the struggle of war and patriotic duty in familial lineages.

Check out the next MFA show up at Gallery 102 now! 🌊🌲

Jamille Wallick is a visual and performance artist interested in imagining new ways of defining community that includes environment. In her thesis exhibition, Ghost Stories from the Forest, Jamille used wood, grass, and human detritus from ghost forests along the Atlantic coast in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina as well as household trash and recycling. As a coastal forest’s edge becomes saturated with encroaching salt water, the trees begin to die, causing stands of bleached, salinated ghost trees. Rising seas resulting from climate change cause this salt water intrusion. As parts of the forest are dying, marshes are flooding and are forced to migrate inland, and the ghost forests become spaces between life and death, hope and loss.

Kamille Jackson’s thesis show, Mystical Visions, just closed! Kamille is an artist exploring abstraction and installation work. She creates weird, imagined landscapes and pieces that honor material investigation. Text, astrological iconography, and a bisexual lighting color palette are other elements that make up the personal symbology she’s creating through her art. @kamille_arts @ka_mille_ by @corcphoto
