It’s the 10 year anniversary of the world premiere of Torrey Pines, my first feature film.

If you have never heard of Torrey Pines, it’s an autobiographical stop motion animated film about growing up trans with my schizophrenic mom.

This project was an extreme labor of love and so many incredible people helped bring this movie to life. My dear friend Chris Looney spent years of his life helping me animate it in my studio, that was also my basement bedroom in a house in Ballard in Seattle. My roommates Paul and Web generously tolerated this decision to make a feature film in the house. It took 4 years. We started working on it at the end of 2012 and it premiered in 2016.

We had a wonderful crew of interns that contributed their special talents to bringing this film into the world. The entire film is made of hand-painted Bristol paper puppets and sets. It was animated on a homemade multiplane constructed out of an old IKEA wire frame dresser from Craigslist.

Chris Walla produced the soundtrack for the film. Susie Kozawa recorded the entire soundscape and foley at Jack Straw. Kimya Dawson performed the critical role of pop singer and also recreated voiceovers for a popular tv show intro with my dad.

Zach Burba and Jacob Jaffe gave two years of their life to tour the film around the world with a live score. Lori Goldston, Steve Moore and Kimya Dawson joined us for big sections of those tours and we all packed into a minivan with the music gear, a PA, projector, screen and merch. We could perform the movie anywhere with power outlets and we did. So many friends set up the most marvelous shows for us. Jody Poorwill took so many of these awesome photos.

It was nearly impossible to choose just 20 images to encapsulate 6 years of life. Go watch the movie for free on my Vimeo or choose to rent it online from a few evil empires. The awesome soundtrack is also on streaming. You can buy the film on DVD and the soundtrack on tape from me. Link to movie in bio. by @coreyjbrewer

Been busy here at TerrorLab and missed the one year anniversary of our launch two weeks back!
Thanks for an amazing year to everyone that used our library, or (as corny as it sounds) gave us a like / follow.
We posted six genre packs to the bandcamp this year & we have more coming. Any requests?

I love Rothko and whenever I see one in person I always make sure to look at them from this perspective. They photograph very poorly in general (compared to impact of seeing one in person) & their power at an angle is never captured. by @coreyjbrewer
