It was a pretty amazing 2025 full of recovery, family, friends, and experiences. Here’s a one second per day recap. Also:

We have no more teenagers. This one hits 20 today and is so worth celebrating. So, here’s the progression from Day 0 to now. It goes so fast.

A year ago right now, I was lying on a cold operating room table, being given a new chance at this thing. I was also given a very clear reminder that my time…our time…is limited.

Many people embrace that inevitability. Me? I’ve always been afraid of it. But here I am, learning to accept daily that I am fragile and that I have limits. Time isn’t abstract anymore. That acceptance brings gratitude, but it also brings a little mourning for the illusion of immortality I didn’t know I was carrying. In many ways, I am different. In some ways, I am still growing. I suspect I always will be.

Meanwhile, I feel strong. The tests show that what the doctors did worked. My heart should last a while now. For that, I am deeply grateful.

My words for you (for both of you still reading): live today with intention, open eyes, and honesty about the fact that none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

Take care of yourself. Listen to your body. I want you around as long as I will be (Lord willing). Peace and love to you on Christmas. Cheers. taken in Hendrick Medical Center by @coreypatterson
