2023 Year in Review

I’ve been in my admin girlie era, so I’ve been click clacking away BTS, but there are a number of projects that I feel very lucky to have been a part of this year. In an egregiously constructed timeline, here are my personal highlights

1. reunited with my sweet bby @gino__cosculluela , who is growing into a fine young man, yes indeed
2. the most cerebral dancer and shape queen @madihicks put your boy on the @stepsonbroadway stories ayyyy
3. unreleased @mrmedlin content, manifesting a superhero show, featuring the GOAT of moisturization himself
4. A personal career highlight : designing the closing show portraiture for the first show I saw on Broadway- @phantomopera . An absolute dream come true 🥹(feat. @jay_a_johnson , styled by @dwcostumes )
5. Rapid fire portraiture for @aladdin marketing team (feat. @jeremyallyngaston )
6. Designed a light painting portrait experience with @disneyonbroadway, for the @aladdin , @thelionking , and @frozenbroadway Bway and Touring companies, and reunited with so many friends from the performance industry (feat. @iammjscott ) (1-6 assisted by @dannybristollphoto , and this photo was shot by Danny!) (4-6 are all #CRVA for @dirtysugar collaborations)
7. @codyrenard was nominated for a billion @thetonyawards and brought me along to document his evening (designer: @houseofharryhalim )
8. @katherineplanet and @paolo.delgatto graciously flew me abroad to editorialize their gorgeous London wedding
9. I’m always so flattered to be hired by another photographer 💜 @evzmm and @tjwagner asked me to design their gay prom themed wedding photo booth.)
10. I’m so immensely proud of the work we put into @reveldanceconvention’s season 8 campaign (creative director: @frankmusso, video: @joeduarte.jpg , assist: @riedmartin )
11. I hope everyone shoots with muse-worthy @theofficialeros . They are the most lovely, thoughtful, and sensitive model ( assist: @southpawsis )

CRVA 2022 Year in Review!

I know it’s January 13th, shut UP!
2022 was perhaps the best year of my life?! Maybe I feel that way because we got out of the *redacted* but I also worked some of my favorite jobs and have been surrounded by wonderful company/colleagues. Here are some highlights and personal faves. If you’re reading, thank you sincerely for following & supporting your local biz-nasty. (Creds in rest of v long caption 💕)

1. @joelewiscompany was kind enough to bring me on for the @strangerthingstv S4 premiere & their mind blowing set production

2. Had a DREAM night shooting for @bronson.photo at the @strangeloopbway @thetonyawards party the night they won Best Musical 💜 He was gracious enough to include some of my work in his @voguemagazine feature 🥹

3. Strange Loop producer @codyrenard pulled a @houseofharryhalim look that buried me alive (feat. @lisarameymusic )

4. @dirtysugar & @disneyonbroadway reunited. My boss & friend @robbsapp and I co-designed the Aladdin setup, & I creative directed and designed the Lion King 25th Anniversary setup!(feat. @indiaboldsbrowne @adivroy_ @senzelahmady @_asten21_ @omaruelom @tanablems @kyle_caress @ryrodino @marcus.n.williams )

5. @forbes featured the heartfelt work @jmaywalker pours into @fivedotpost as well as the shoot we put together 4 years ago

6. @reveldanceconvention brought in key note speaker @kennyortega

7. I *love* coming home to @elementhuntsville in the summer with @hayleyelizzz & @s2pinc (feat: @patestutts @makenna_sueyoshi)

8. Designed the Revel Faculty Promo, shot with @joeduarte.jpg (Feat. @frankmusso @candancebrown @jordanclark @jamescombomarino)

9. Infused my love for anime & superheroes into a Chromatica themed shoot with @shaykwalsh before we went to @ladygaga concert. I’m obsessed and want to give all my friends superpowers.

10. @bridgetwinder made the mistake of doing Showboat the Musical instead of auditioning during the Top Model Era. (Brought to you in part by @amandawinder)

11. Designed for @theShed + @dirtysugar (special thanks @dannybristollphoto)

12. FORCED a super last minute mini shoot with @jonplaterodude @oksanaplatero before they left for @miraquienbaila taken in Manhattan, New York by @coreyrives

What’s uppppppppp it’s my birthday and I’m performing in @iputaspellonyounyc tonight. It’s a very spooky scary show (ooOOOoooOOoo) to raise funds to feed homeless LGBTQIA+ youth via the Ali Forney Center!

Celebrated my grandfather’s life yesterday. I found this picture in the suit they bought me to wear to sing at their 50 year vow renewal. Very big famous-celeb, no-paparazzi energy!

His obituary is insane: it reads like Huckleberry Finn was given Cold War Missile Development clearances (and the more I think, the less I feel that’s an exaggeration.) And he loved Scrabble… Range. I’m very sad I did not get to see him more before he passed.

My aunt is releasing a book of his stories, partially (I’ve intuited) because he was a rocket scientist who literally would not speak unless spoken to. I’m sure that will better encapsulate him than any post, but he reminds me that every person is incredibly complicated and rich in their own unique experiences. People would become frustrated with his inability to share when they found out how deeply interesting he is, until they contextualized his partnership with my grandmother, who… took up a lot of aural space 😂 (*utmost* respect to my tiny, loyal, chatty queen. May she also Rest In Peace). He didn’t seem to crave connection through sharing his stories, or if he did, he was quiet about expressing it. He unintentionally taught me to be the opposite, on both accounts.

As long as I’ve been alive, he served as an elder at the church where I was raised. Religion is complicated, but it was a positive experience to see a community respect a man for being a person of his word, and for being very gentle. I know many men who have suffered through deconstructing an identity around being dominating and emotionally rigid and having failed relationships as a product. I’m lucky that, through his example, that hardship was not mine. He reminds me that, sometimes, freedom becomes accessible through watching people experience that freedom.

I hope that he can’t see that I used the b-word (there were also restrictions around ‘darn’ and other dangerous, gateway bad words!!!) I hope instead he’s somewhere growing zucchini, and looking at pictures of astral movements on a chunky Dell Optiplex while listening to my grandmother teach an 8 year old how to play Hot Cross Buns, and chat his ear off. Love and miss you very much by @coreyrives

Lol I had maybe the best summer of my life and never posted about it. Frolicking around Lisbon and Florence with these absolute sweethearts literally still feels like a dream.
