Who decided that RIP was gonna be the abbreviation for “Rest in Peace”? Like, was somebody just, “ok, let ‘er rip!”? And we all just went with it? Was there a tombstone carvers union back in the 17th century who was like, “nahhh… 11 letters is too much, let’s just do three”? Sometimes I have very odd questions about why things are the way they are… by @corgi_zero

Happy Indigenous Persons Day!
Story time: I often get compliments on my hair when I do twists like this. It’s not braided, it’s two strands twisted against each other so they stay, sorta like how rope is made. I learned to “twist” on a rainy day back in high school in Yosemite valley. We wandered into the museum, where an old Miwok woman was making baskets. She first twisted the reeds to make a thin cord, and showed us how. I immediately was like “I can do that with my hair!” and have been ever since… Anyway, there’s no moral to the story, I just thought it, in a tiny way, honors our ancestors and ancient ways.

These two quotes from the end of the book echo in my brain every year around this time. Why does October always give me that longing to be elsewhere, elsewhere? There’s an energy to the rapidly changing seasons, and my soul is so confused… to roll with the tumbleweeds of the changes, or to dig my heels in and try to keep things the same. If anything can ever really be the same…

Anyway, I usually would’ve posted a 🎃-ton of Halloween content by now, but it’s just not the same this year. Oh, and I’ve ordered a black tree so I can have Halloween on Christmas, because I think it’s appropriate.

Life ain’t always beautiful, but it’s a beautiful ride…

So we wake up every morning and keep going because there are flowers that exist. Because sometimes the sun shines through a plant in that tiny perfect way that catches your breath in your throat. Because your dog needs you to pet her just as much as you need to stroke that soft fur. It’s not gonna be ok, but at least there are flowers and dogs.

Mosaic me into something beautiful… out of all these broken pieces of my life 🟡▪️💠🔺🟣🟩

I have this fantasy of smashing all of the dinner plates that I no longer use and making them into some sort of mosaic. Anybody with any experience in this hit me up. Or maybe just come by and smash things with me, and then we can go to the amusement park and scream our heads off with wild abandon. I really would love to have a psychotic episode right about now, how ‘bout you?

Two breaths in, one big long breath out… hand on heart, feet on the ground.

I miss my innocence, my naivety, before traumatic loss. I miss not knowing that I need to teach myself to feel “safe” again. I miss seeing beauty and it not making me cry. I miss the excitement of October, the best month with Dodger baseball and Halloween and pumpkins and the feeling that the heat is about to break… I miss you Scott. by @corgi_zero
