Two recent collages made from the same book, using a lot of the same colors but in two very different ways — one torn and layered, the other woven.

That’s one of the things I like about collage. You can start with the same source material and end up somewhere completely different depending on how you cut, tear, layer or rearrange it.

I’m teaching a collage workshop this Saturday from 1–4 PM, where we’ll experiment with some of these different ways of working and then have plenty of time to make your own pieces.

No experience needed. All materials included. $65.

My future niece had the most beautiful bridal shower, with flowers filling the table. At the end of the day, I asked if I could take some home. Into the freezer they went. I especially love these two pieces because they have such a sweet memory attached to them. by @corinnecobabe

I’ve been giving myself a little challenge recently: make one small collage every day. There aren’t really any rules, which is part of what I like about it. Some days I begin with an idea; other days, just a color, a shape, or a way of tearing the paper—and go from there.

I love that collage doesn’t require a big plan. You can begin with one small thing and see what happens.

I’m excited to bring that same open, playful approach into my upcoming collage workshop.

Saturday, September 26
1–4 p.m.
$65 • all materials included
Limited to 10 people

We’ll spend the afternoon cutting, tearing, arranging, and seeing where the materials take us. No experience needed.

Reserve your spot through the link in my bio.

What is a piece of art worth?

There is the cost of the paper, always seeming to rise.
Oh yeah, and the cost of the glue.

And then there is the cost of putting that art on a wall.
And of being congratulated, even though I feel the work could’ve been better. Or being passed by, even when I know this is SO good.

There is also the time that it takes to make it,
And the time that it took to learn how,
And the time spent feeling like something was inside me churning and boiling and trying to escape
reshaped by my heart into something new,
Hoping that someone who was feeling something similar might see it and say “OMG – sometimes I feel like that, too.”

I can tell you the cost of the paper.
And what I paid for the glue.
And what it costs to have a roof above my head
While I do the things I do.
The rest is harder to account for.
But it is there, and it is real.
Written in every scrap of paper or shutter click—
and occasionally,
expressed as a number on a gallery wall.

People ask me all the time how I came up with the idea for my series, “Arrested Decay”. In this short shaky video I share the story about how it all began!

I’m still trying to make one collage card every day, and lately I’ve been leaving them until the end of the day when I’m tired. So color has become an easy place to start. Pick a color, pull some pages, and see where it goes.

This week I worked my way through red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet — trying to change up the shapes and composition along the way. by @corinnecobabe

I’ve been making one collage card a day and I’m up to 16. Some days I start with a prompt — a color, a shape, a mood or a way of cutting the paper. Other days I just start pulling things out of my art books and see where it goes.

I’m really loving having this small daily practice and seeing how different they all end up. A few favorites so far. Which one is yours? by @corinnecobabe

I love working on this series. It’s very slow and meditative. Watching delicate petals and tiny air pockets surrender to the cold. The process demands patience. As the ice sets, and I prepare to photograph it- beautiful textures I could never plan for appear. by @corinnecobabe

My friends grow these gorgeous dahlias in their yard. They sat on the kitchen table, looking beautiful and perfect. As they started to wilt and age, I noticed a different kind of beauty. I decided to freeze and photograph them for my project Arrested Decay.

We often turn away from decay and aging — especially in ourselves. But with these flowers, I found that a quiet magic remains. by @corinnecobabe

Happy 60th birthday to my big sister @phodojenic

She was my first roommate, and from the beginning I pretty much wanted to do whatever she was doing. She took a photography class, so I took a photography class. Then we took classes together and ended up starting a wedding photography business together.

She eventually went on to pursue a culinary career, but she has always been one of my biggest supporters — of me, my work, and whatever chapter I’m in.

And all these years later, we’re still finding things to do together, now it’s knitting! She has the biggest heart, shows up when I need her, and has been such an important part of my life.

Love you so much. Happy birthday. by @corinnecobabe

People often ask where the flowers in my art come from.

Everywhere, really.

Trader Joe’s, the neighborhood, the flower market, a bouquet from Mike.

These came from @traderjoes . I’ve always been drawn to the inside of peonies—the tangled stamens, the soft layers of petals, the hidden details that emerge as they open. by @corinnecobabe

Thank you to everyone who came by, spent time with all of our work, shared conversations, and made the afternoon so memorable.

It was wonderful to see family and friends, meet new people, and spend a few hours talking about art. Mike poured wine, shared stories, and even sent a few bottles home with new owners.

A heartfelt thank you to @susan_springer_anderson and her family who hosted the event. Their warmth, generosity, and willingness to help made the whole afternoon feel easy and welcoming.

Tired, happy, and grateful. by @corinnecobabe
