What happens when experts in artificial intelligence, molecular science, and materials research come together? New opportunities for discovery!

This summer, researchers from across the world gathered at Cornell Tech for a workshop exploring how AI and machine learning are transforming the way we approach molecular science from accelerating discovery to creating new pathways for innovation.

It was exciting to support a community of researchers who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible at the intersection of computation and science. Bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise is what drives meaningful collaboration and advances the future of research.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this workshop a success and to the researchers who shared their knowledge, ideas, and vision for the future.

What does industry collaboration look like in action?

In one of our M.Eng. projects sponsored by W. L. Gore, students are tackling a critical EV challenge: moisture intrusion in battery packs. Using advanced modeling and AI, the team is exploring solutions to improve battery safety, performance, and lifespan.

And it’s just one example:
🔋 Tesla-sponsored teams designing utility-scale energy storage systems
🧬 Kyowa Kirin projects advancing biopharma tech transfer processes
🌱 DuMond Farms collaborations analyzing renewable fuel pathways

Each project delivers actionable insights—while connecting organizations with top engineering talent.

Exciting news coming from our ChemE Car team! 🎉

The Cornell Chem-E Car Team is proud to share that their Pressure subteam earned 2nd place at the AIChE Northeast Regional Conference!

Powered entirely by a gas-generating reaction between malic acid and sodium bicarbonate, the car converts carbon dioxide production into controlled motion. This achievement reflects months of interdisciplinary teamwork across the whole team, and they are so proud of everyone's hard work!

We're excited to see them continue building on this momentum as they prepare for Nationals in the fall!

Way to go ChemE Car!!!!

Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists at Cornell 🔬✨

On March 28, 2026, the Yu Lab at Cornell's Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering welcomed middle and high school students and their guardians for the Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) lab tour. They showcased perovskite quantum dots – from synthesis and glowing luminescence to UV–vis characterization and their role in LEDs – and received wonderful feedback from participants about the hands-on STEM experience!

We’re grateful for the curiosity and enthusiasm these students brought, and we are excited to see where their STEM journeys lead!
