The way Frieren stole my entire heart from the beginning! This was absolutely my favorite anime of the year without question. I love the gentle pace, the magic system, the beautiful characters, and the soundtrack. It’s really the whole package for me.

Everything is self-made, including the staff :) wig is the Claire classic from @ardawigs with pigtails made from silver wefts over styrofoam.

True story, @dondolcephotography always makes me feel 1000x cooler than I really am. Absolutely obsessed with the shots from Anime NYC this year! It felt a little insane to do a shoot while also running the Masquerade but when I saw he was coming I couldn’t resist getting a shoot in. Plus I’ve been wanting to get some shots of Inuyasha for ages. It’s a simple looking costume but in terms of finish, this baby is so polished inside including hand blind stitched hems for that seamless Anime look. The wig is my first attempt at crimp styling and boy did that @ardawigs wig take the styling like a champ.

Did everyone have fun at ANYC this weekend? I didn’t get to cosplay because I worked the con this year which was a really unique experience!

I’m head over heels for this shot by @graceandshinephoto seriously I don’t even recognize myself in this pic, it’s all Triss from red head to leather sandaled toes! I deeply appreciate how many of the details he was able to get in this shot.

In honor of the second stage play coming out here are more shots from over the summer with @allisonthephotographer at Dragon Con! I loved making and love wearing this cosplay so much and I’m so proud of how dang accurate it is compared to the stage play version while still fitting my (very) different figure. I’m so happy for the stage play team getting to do another part of this wonderful story and for announcing they’ll be available on Blu Ray, too! Congratulations and I can’t wait to see part 2!

I haven’t had much time to craft lately because…I’m buying an apartment! All my extra time and energy has been spent on that process. While things have been on hold, I’m excited to be gaining a dedicated craft space in our new place, which means once I’m all set up there I’ll be making something craaaazy! In the meantime, learning goldwork embroidery has been a quiet way to still few connected to art and cosplay. I’ll definitely be making Trevor Belmont from Castlevania at some point, but in the meantime I’ve just done the Belmont emblem in shining glittering gold.

Happy birthday to the incomparable Wei Wuxian! Zero photoshop used in the creation of this hair flip. Just @randomsparrow tossing it and @allisonthephotographer with incredible artistic timing. When I was making this costume I knew I wanted to have an even more dramatic ponytail than the stage play wig and ultimately based it more on the donghua WWX and I’m so glad I did!

The cute sleeve design is what caught my eye in wanting to make this cosplay, though it’s not as easy a shape to drape as you might think. It was satisfying to do the clean color blocks into the point along with the hand stitched square appliqué. This shot from @allisonthephotographer really captures the fun I had making the sleeve and highlights the delightful soft linen I used for the outermost garment.

Wei Wuxian is a deeply important character to me, perhaps the strongest connection I’ve ever felt to a fictional person. He is joyful, lives life in the moment, deeply cares about and protects those he loves, and is completely unafraid to challenge the status quo all while being unapologetically deeply human and deeply flawed. I fell in love with this costume from the Mo Dao Zu Shi stage play which only played in Japan for 2 weeks. I made sure to watch the livestream (at 1am!) because I knew I’d love it and was blown away by the actors, costumes, and stage. I dropped all other projects and knocked this one out in a few weeks all while focusing on the little finishing details challenging myself to make something clean, simple, and high quality.

Shooting with @allisonthephotographer always makes me feel cooler and confident than I really am. If you’re lucky enough to have her at a convention near you, absolutely book with her! I can’t wait to share the rest of this shoot with you.

Gonna be vulnerable here and share my build book for my Wei Wuxian cosplay. This past weekend I competed for the first time since 2019 in the Page to Stage contest at Dragon Con and was bumped up to win Best Master! The judges cited my clean sewing as their key reason for selecting me to win and I couldn’t be more honored. I’m sharing my build book in the hopes that it will be helpful to folks looking to compete in a craftsmanship contest and need clarity on what a build book could look like (I say could, not should, because I’ve seen hundreds in my time as a show runner and they’re all valid!). I tried to highlight what I was most proud of and what might not be apparent from just looking at the costume in a brief judging session as well as showcase my methods and skills as I made the costume.

Overall I’m so proud of what I made as I’ve been focusing on improving my precision sewing and am so excited for my next build which I plan on being both sewing heavy and a bit of a confection. by @cornettocosplay
