Starting Fall 2027, Cornish College of the Arts Dance Department will expand its offerings to include a new BA and a Minor in Dance alongside its BFA, creating more pathways and opportunities for students to pursue their artistic and professional goals in dance.

Through daily studio physical practices, choreography, improvisation, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional entrepreneurship skills, and performance, Dance at CCASU helps students refine their artistry, develop their creative voices, and become artists who contribute meaningfully to the field.

It’s time to meet the choreographers! 👀

HERE ARE OUR CHOREOGRAPHERS‼️

⭐️Erricka Turner-Davis⭐️has performed with Poetry+Motion, 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, Chamber Dance Company, Intiman Theatre, Seattle Opera, Sankofa Theatre, Oakland Ballet, and Spectrum Dance Theater. She received her BFA in Ballet Ed. with Honors from The University of The Arts, Philadelphia, PA, and her MFA in Dance from The University of Washington, Seattle, WA. She also completed 2019-2020 TAT Lab. She has choreographed, taught, and lectured at Summer Dance Lab, Walla Walla, WA, Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center, SOAR Academy, AileyCamp (STG), Seattle, WA, Jack and Jill of America Honoree Ball-Seattle Chapter, Broadway Performing Arts Center (11 Days of MLK, Jr.), Harlequin Theatre (Soul on Fire, Let The Good Times Roll), Spectrum Dance Theater, Northwest Tap Connection, ARC School of Ballet/ARC Dance Productions, Tacoma School for the Performing Arts (SOTA), Allegro Performing Arts Academy, Ballet Bellevue, Evergreen State College, Northwest Dance Intensive, Evergreen City Ballet, University of Washington Dance Series, and other venues throughout the Pacific Northwest.

⭐️dani tirrell⭐️ is an Inkster, MI born and raised, Black, Trans Spectrum, Queer choreographer, dancer, and movement guide whose work centers Black identity, collective care, and storytelling through embodied practice. Their artistic work has reached audiences across the United States—from Detroit to Seattle to Washington, D.C.—creating spaces for reflection, connection, ritual, and transformation. dani tirrell is the Founder and Artistic Director of dani tirrell & The Congregation, a movement-based performance ensemble dedicated to amplifying stories from the African Diaspora.

Huge congratulations to our wonderful faculty, alumni, and guest artists from the Cornish Dance Department!

Nia-Amina Minor

Nia-Amina Minor is a movement artist, choreographer, curator, and educator originally from Los Angeles. Her work focuses on the body and what it carries using physical and archival research to converse with memory. She approaches her practice as an imaginative space grounded in rhythm where improvisation and choreography meet. Nia-Amina has received regional and national commissions for her choreographic and film work and has a working background as a performer and dramaturg. She has presented original work at University of Washington, The Luminary St. Louis, Seattle Art Museum, WaNaWari, Seattle Black Film Festival, Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF), Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Minnesota Dance Theater. Nia-Amina is co-founder of Black Collectivity, a collaborative project that curates and creates movement-based experiences that celebrate memory and culture. She is currently on faculty at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University and is the Curating Artist in Residence at Velocity Dance Theater.

Amy O’Neil

Amy O’Neal (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, curator, and dance educator merging contemporary and street dance. A 2026 Guggenheim Fellow in Choreography, she has created and toured nine critically acclaimed evening-length works nationally and internationally and countless shorter works for concert dance, music video, dance film, virtual reality, weddings, flashmobs, and experimental performance in black boxes, galleries, nightclubs, warehouses, basements, and streets.

From 2000 to 2010, along with musician and composer Zeke Keeble, O’Neal co-directed locust, a dance/music/video performance company based in Seattle. From 2010 until now, she creates dance experiences merging practices and values of hip hop, house dance, and experimental performance.

She is a practicing guest of Black social dance culture participating in clubbing, sessions, battles, and advocacy. Along with dani tirrell, she co-founded the House dance classes and open session at The Beacon: Massive Monkees Studio in 20 by @cornishcollegedance

Marissa Rae Niederhauser, Dance ‘02, brings 42 years of dance practice and 21 years of body-based work across film, performance art, photography, noise and installation to the Cornish Arts Incubator.

Niederhauser (@josiesecho) has presented live work and films internationally, exploring the body as a site for movement, experimentation and expression. During her residency, she’ll share this expansive practice through performances that move across disciplines and invite audiences to experience movement in unexpected ways.

You can view her work this weekend at Alhadeff Studio (@seattlecenter): Saturday, September 19 at 3:30pm and Sunday, September 20 at 7pm. 🎭

This September Cornish Dance alumna Micaela Taylor premieres her newest work, Bow Out, at @englishnationalballet .

In true interdisciplinary fashion, the ballet will be performed alongside George Balanchine’s Symphony in Three Movements and Jae Man Joo’s forthcoming debut of Auguries of Innocence as part of the company’s season-opening triple bill.

We’re celebrating Cornish alum Amy O’Neal, Dance ’99, on being named a 2026 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient!

During her time at Cornish, O’Neal trained and performed with influential Seattle companies including Pat Graney Company and Scott/Powell Performance, building the foundation for a career that blends hip-hop, house and contemporary dance. She also became the first recipient of Cornish’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014.

Today, O’Neal is a nationally recognized choreographer, educator and founder of Hybrid Dance Lab in Los Angeles and Seattle.

This prestigious fellowship is a powerful recognition of her creative impact. Congratulations, Amy! 👏
