The light of autumn holds a certain magic. 🍂

Gold over the Bosque as the cottonwoods turn, the whole sky softens at the edges, the way it only does here, in this part of New Mexico, in this particular month.

Sunset at The Oasis at Corrales Grief Spa.

Come land. Come breathe. Come home. 🌅

Food is medicine. 🌿

Ravioli with homemade herb pesto and pomegranate seeds, made by Kristy at Corrales Grief Spa. A small, nourishing moment on an evening at The Oasis.

Some healing happens in a treatment room. Some of it happens at the table.

Extended stays and custom retreat experiences at Corrales Grief Spa can include meals prepared by Kristy—thoughtfully made, specific to you, and offered as part of an environment designed entirely around your restoration.

Chronic pain carries a grief that most people never name. 💚

The losses are specific and real: the walks you used to take without thinking, the plans you stopped making, or the version of yourself that existed before pain reorganized everything.

A 2025 peer-reviewed study found that people living with chronic pain show psychological profiles that closely resemble those experiencing prolonged grief disorder. The research is catching up to what people in pain have always known.

At Corrales Grief Spa, Kristy holds space for this grief, through clinical hypnotherapy, guided imagery, Reiki, expressive arts, breathwork, and meditation, all adapted to your capacity on a given day.

Your pain is real. Your grief deserves tenderness. You do not have to arrive feeling hopeful.

No fruit carries more mythology than this one.

In ancient Greece, the pomegranate was the fruit of Persephone, the goddess who descended into the underworld and returned each spring, carrying the seeds of both worlds within her.

It was associated with Aphrodite and Hera, with fertility and mortality, with the passage between death and renewal. Its blood-red seeds were understood as an image of life arising from darkness.

One week ago, a New Mexico family experienced the unimaginable: their 15-year-old son died by suicide.

He lived with ADHD and struggled with his mental health, navigating different medications and treatments in an effort to find something that would help.

Today, his mother and father are grieving their child, and his siblings are grieving their brother.

We want to help hold this family.

Through The O’Waken Foundation Scholarship Fund, we are raising money to provide them with compassionate grief support through Corrales Grief Spa at The Oasis.

The amount we raise will determine how much care we are able to give them.

Every dollar raised can become supportive sessions for this family. As the fund grows, our hope is to expand that care into an immersive private retreat for the parents.

Perhaps we raise enough to give them supportive sessions.

Perhaps we can give them an afternoon.

Perhaps we can give them an overnight.

And perhaps, together, we can give them several days or weeks…a protected space where they can step away from everyday responsibilities and simply grieve, breathe, rest, be witnessed and be cared for.

Additional funds can also help provide grief support for the siblings as they navigate the loss of their brother.

There is no contribution too small, because every amount raised becomes care.

Suicide loss can carry extraordinarily complicated grief…shock, guilt, anger, unanswered questions and endless “what ifs.”

They should not have to walk through it alone.

Please contribute to The O’Waken Foundation Scholarship Fund…and please share this post. Someone in your circle may be able to help us give this family another hour, another session, another day of support.

How much care we can offer them depends upon what we can raise together. 💚

Mental health matters.
Our children matter.
Grief support matters.
Local and Extended Community matters.
Love matters.

What if grief isn’t random? 🌿

Hermetic philosophy, one of the oldest wisdom traditions in the Western world, offers a framework that maps onto the grief experience with surprising precision.

The Principle of Rhythm: grief moves in waves.
The Principle of Polarity: grief and growth are not opposites. They are two ends of the same continuous reality.

The Principle of Vibration: nothing, including pain that feels permanent, is as fixed as it seems.

At Corrales Grief Spa, Kristy draws on many streams of wisdom, ancient and contemporary. The seven Hermetic principles are among them.

At Corrales Grief Spa, Kristy guides guests through an exercise called a Projective Scribble drawing—scribbling freely, then staring at the drawing, the way you’d stare at clouds and let images emerge.

She uses exactly that metaphor: look into the scribble like you’re looking into the clouds, and allow yourself to see what’s there.

When you’re in a session at Corrales Grief Spa, you’ll go much deeper. But this is the first step in an insightful practice.

Comment below, and tell us what you see in the clouds. ✨ by @corralesgriefspa

“May all beings be happy.” 🌸

A little Yogi Tea message resting on a bouquet of carnations reminded me how complicated happiness can feel when we’re grieving.

We laugh, enjoy something beautiful, or feel a moment of peace…then guilt whispers: Am I forgetting? If I hurt less, do I love less?

Your pain does not have to be the proof of your love.

A laugh doesn’t erase your memories. Joy doesn’t diminish your loss. You can admire the flowers and still wish your person were here to see them.

Grief and happiness can share the same heart.

There’s no need to force joy. But when it visits, you are allowed to welcome it.

“May all beings be happy” includes you, too. 🤍

✨ WE ARE OUR ANCESTORS ✨
Where science meets spirit…

Meet my great-grandmothers: Ruth Rose Ruby (Ross) and Mavis Beulah Russell (Webre).

Looking into their faces, I see lives that helped make mine possible. I wonder about their joys, their losses, their private dreams…and the parts of them that continue in me.

Biologically, we carry DNA passed down through our ancestral lines. Through family life, we also receive stories, rituals, beliefs, and ways of loving and grieving.

Epigenetics studies how experience can influence gene activity. How the biological effects of trauma may pass across human generations remains an unfolding scientific question.

‘Another Self’ on Netflix explores ancestral wounds through family constellations. For me, its invitation is deeply moving: to consider how our own stories are connected to the stories that came before us.

Spiritually, I feel my ancestors woven into my becoming.

Perhaps this is one place where science meets spirit: in recognizing that our lives begin long before our own first breath.

Our family histories can shape how we live, how we face death, and how we mourn. Some of us learned to speak our grief. Others learned to swallow it. Some inherited rituals of remembrance; others inherited silence.

We can meet that inheritance with tenderness. We can carry forward the love and courage, and create room for feelings that once had nowhere to go.

At Corrales Grief Spa at The Oasis, we make space for remembrance, expression, and the unfolding of your own story.

Ruth Rose Ruby and Mavis Beulah Weber…I honor the lives you lived. I am here because you were here.

And someday, we too will be ancestors. What love will we leave behind? 🤍 Whose face, whose gesture, whose love do you recognize in yourself? 💚

Grief doesn’t only take. 🌿

Research by psychologists Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun at the University of North Carolina documented something remarkable: some people who move through profound loss don’t just recover. They find themselves, in certain dimensions of their lives, more than they were before.

They called it post-traumatic growth. It shows up as a deeper appreciation for ordinary moments. A greater sense of personal strength. New possibilities that the loss itself revealed. Relationships that deepened. A shift in what feels meaningful.

This isn’t a silver lining. It isn’t the grief being worth it. It’s something that grows alongside the grief, in its own time, in people who allow themselves to be genuinely changed by what they’ve lived through.
At Corrales Grief Spa, Kristy creates the conditions for exactly this—when you’re ready. Link in bio to learn more. 🌸
