An @africanofilter and @speakupafrica campaign. We are on a mission to change Africa’s misrepresentation on the world map. #CorrectTheMap

POSTS STORIES REELS

164 countries said YES to #CorrectTheMap.

What started as a campaign to challenge the way Africa is represented on the world map has become a global conversation about how maps shape the way we see the world.
This moment belongs to everyone who questioned the map, shared the campaign, raised their voice and refused to accept that the way we have always seen Africa is the way Africa must continue to be seen.
The map has been challenged. Now let’s change how Africa is seen. We did it.

Today marks the reveal of one of the longest-standing misconceptions, the Mercator Projection. An earth projection that completely misrepresents Africa’s true size, minimising its global importance. Let’s #CorrectTheMap and end the longest disinformation campaign! Promote the #EqualEarthProjection.

We corrected the map. Now, what comes next?
At MIPAD @mipad100 event, we took the #CorrectTheMap conversation beyond the UN resolution and towards what really matters: turning commitment into action.

We celebrated Professor Robert Dussey @rdussey , recognised as Global Minister of the Year for his leadership in taking Correct the Map to the United Nations General Assembly.

But this is only the beginning.

We’re calling on Ministers of Education across Africa to turn the resolution into policy — so children can learn with maps that accurately represent our continent.
And we’re calling on philanthropies and education-focused brands to help update textbooks, learning materials and resources.

The map has been corrected. Now, let’s make sure the correction reaches every classroom.

Africa is not small. The map is.

For too long, the world has viewed Africa through a distorted lens. Correcting the map is about more than geography; it’s about correcting how Africa is seen, understood, and represented.
A huge congratulations to @mokymakura and the entire @Africa No Filter team for championing this important campaign and continuing to challenge outdated narratives about our continent. Your courage, consistency, and belief in Africa are inspiring.
At Kgill+ Media Plus Hub, we believe storytelling has the power to change perceptions. When we #CorrectTheMap, we correct the narrative.
Here’s to an Africa seen accurately, told boldly, and celebrated fully.

#CorrectTheMap was built through collaboration, bringing together governments, African institutions, civil society organisations, media, researchers, storytellers, technical experts, advocates and partners across Africa and beyond.

It was the strength of that collaboration, and the shared commitment to a more accurate representation of Africa, that brought this effort to this moment. The adoption of the UN resolution is not one organisation’s victory, but a collective milestone shaped by many hands, perspectives and contributions.

#CorrectTheMap grew through partnership, through conversations, advocacy, research and a shared belief that representation matters.
We are grateful to Speak Up Africa for standing alongside us throughout this journey and helping take the conversation from an idea to a movement.
The UN resolution is a collective achievement, and we are proud to have built this journey together.
Thank you for being part of the team that made it happen. #CorrectTheMap.

This simple idea has been at the heart of the #CorrectTheMap movement from the beginning.
Thank you, Moky Makura, for championing the campaign, challenging the narratives that surround Africa and bringing people together around the power of representation.
The adoption of the UN resolution shows what happens when a question that has been overlooked for generations is finally impossible to ignore.

These words capture the heart of the #CorrectTheMap movement.
Thank you, Professor Carlos Lopes, for lending your voice, expertise and influence to a conversation that challenges more than a projection — it challenges the perceptions that have shaped how the world sees Africa.
The adoption of the UN resolution is a milestone, but the work of changing narratives continues.
Thank you for being part of the team that made it happen.

Maps shape how we understand the world, what appears large, what appears small, what feels central and what is pushed to the margins.
Thank you, H.E. Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi @selmamalika_haddadi , for helping make the case that representation matters and for bringing this conversation into spaces where it could create real change.
The map may be familiar, but the story it tells does not have to remain unchanged.
Thank you for being part of the team that made it happen #CorrectTheMap.
