Excited to be working with @cortexbass in the UK and yesterday I was having a great afternoon with a Napoleon Deluxe 5 fretless recording a short ballad part as a test.

Really nice fretless bass! Loads of tone to be had and plays like a dream too. The bass is fitted with @dogalstrings Carbonsteel round wounds.

I didn’t use any EQ at all for this short piece, everything is flat on the bass and nothing at all added to the bass with just a touch of compression on the track. Di’d straight in with no cab.

We have this bass in stock in the UK and it’s also on the website. Come and have a demo if you fancy a trip to Bedfordshire! 🤗

Excited to be working with @cortexbass in the UK and today I was having a great afternoon playing a Napoleon Deluxe 4 AL which is the @alex_lofoco signature model.

What a great bass! Loads of tone to be had and plays like a dream too. (Even if I can’t play like Alex)! 😆

I didn’t use any EQ at all for this jam, everything is flat on the bass and nothing at all added to the bass in the recording stage. Di’d straight in with no cab, all raw and in the moment.

*The soloed front and rear pickup tones are mixed down and panned for accompaniment and effect. It’s more about the tone of both pickups together*

I did tune down a semitone though for those who notice! 😉

This is my take for the bass solo section of Jaco Pastorius’ [Used To Be A] Cha-Cha from his debut album ‘Jaco Pastorius’ (1976).
I panned my line on the left channel – so you can hear the original track on the right one.

The purpose of this video is solely educational and the transcription and relevant lesson will be part of the new book I’m writing “Bass Insight, Jaco Pastorius” – featuring several pivotal tunes by ‘the greatest bass player in the world’.

🎂 To wish Allan Holdsworth a heavenly 80th birthday, I repost this fragment from a tribute project I took part about five years ago. We called ‘Allan’s Legacy’ - featuring 19 musicians including Mike Stern, John Etheridge, Jason Rebello, Bob Franceschini, Enrico Pinna, Joel Taylor, John Wheatcroft.. to name a few - and includes some of the pivotal tunes of the ‘man who changed guitar forever’.

Thank you Allan for having inspired many, many of us and more.

一把頂尖的六弦你值得擁有！Cortex Napoleon deluxe 6
.
