Yello! 👋 It’s me… Kim… the artist behind Corvidae 🐦‍⬛ I get asked, often, what Corvidae means and why I chose the name and how I got started and realized I’ve never done a ‘this is who I am post’ so I figured I ought to! So, I started Corvidae in 2016 as a leap toward my childhood dream of being a full time artist. What began as selling my fine art paintings years ago (I have a BFA with an emphasis in painting in watercolor and oil) transformed into something more functional…art you can use everyday and then Corvidae was born. And the name? Corvidae is the family of birds that includes Ravens, Crows, Jays, and Magpies. Back when I lived in my tiny Whitefish apartment, a crow used to visit me daily, perching on my railing and quickly became a little friend and muse. That wild little buddy of mine inspired the name and became the heart of my brand. 🖤 Now I’m fortunate enough to create everyday products with my art that is inspired by the places and things I love - think forests, mountains, wildlife, and National Parks. 🏔️ Thanks for being here and supporting this wild little dream of mine! 🌲 📍: A mountain forest campsite by a lake 🏕️ (my happy place) 📸: @soul.craft.media Self Employed Artist | Small Business Owner | Artist Entrepreneur | Outdoor Enthusiast | Functional Art by @corvidaedd
Day 3: self imposed illustration challenge: VOTE!!! Did a repeating floral pattern in various shades of blue and red (red white and blue) with the word vote in the center! Today is the midterm elections and I’m so hopeful that we’ll get people in who actually represent us… the people (or as I like to joke, the poors/povols). I’m tired of the hate, the violence, the lack of empathy, the grifting, and the attempt to sell off of our public lands and wild places. So fingers crossed for outcomes that help and not hurt us. I’ll just be screen printing and fulfilling orders today and totally not obsessively checking results 🫣 #voteingday #makeyourvoiceheard #votingart #artistchallenge by @corvidaedd
Day 2: Self imposed illustration challenge ✨ Branches ✨ Tree branches and a sparkling stars create a sweet but moody illustration. No rhyme or reason behind this illustration. I was doodling while watching a documentary. #illustrationchallenge #patterndesign #inspiredbynature by @corvidaedd
🍂🍁Happy November 🍁🍂 -Day 1 of self imposed illustration challenge: Autumn leaves repeating pattern - As if I don’t have enough to do, I want to get better at illustrating faster. I have a commission that I’ve been working on since May and I’m nowhere close to finished. It’s frustrating because it’s taking so long and yet when I draw everything feels/looks awful so I discard it which leaves me with very little progress to show. So for the entire month of November I want to create an illustration each day in the attempt to train my brain, hands, and creativity to create each day even if the result is awful. Maybe this self imposed challenge will help me get out of the creative block I have with my commission. So be sure to check each day for a creative illustration. If you have an idea of what I out to illustrate let me know in comments! #selfimposedchallenge #illustrationchallenge #patternaday #illustrationeachday by @corvidaedd
🎃🐈‍⬛🍂HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🪾🕸️🦇 ✨Witches cackle, pumpkins gleam, In the night a spooky dream, While wishing you Happy Halloween ✨ Came up with a couple of fun spooky season illustrations. Maybe next year I’ll do something with them. However you end up celebrating I hope you have a fun Holiday! #halloweenillustrations #handdrawnart #originalart #patternsurfacedesign by @corvidaedd
Welp, The new site is live and I couldn’t be more over the moon excited about it! I switched platforms and it’s been something I’ve been dreaming about out doing for years. I moved from squarespace to Shopify because I needed more from my site. Squarespace was great but I simply outgrew it. I decided to hire someone to build my site because I wanted it done right and oh gosh, it was such a good decision. Kait of @morphcopy and Sam of @savinastudios offer a package to build it together and I’m so glad I took advantage of the offer. I hope you enjoy browsing the site. I love how much easier it is to find things and I love the ability to offer collections! Now instead of playing a game of search you can find a collection of products in one spot! Game changer! #smallbusinesswebsite #newwebsitelaunch #squarespacetoshopify #smallbusinessgrowth by @corvidaedd
I doodled a little last night and came up with this autumn inspired floral pattern. It makes me think of vintage designs that would be on a dress or a chair or wallpaper. I’m not sure if I’m 100% happy with it but I think it would make a lovely tea towel or decorative pillow. #doodlingpatterns #floralpattern #handdrawnart by @corvidaedd
It’s amazing how messy baking can be but with a good towel the clean up can be easy….especially if it’s a cute towel! So happy about how the Juniper + Berries microfiber towel turned out. The Gingerbread Waffle towel is a festive way to celebrate the season! ✨ Not only can you hang it over your over door handle as a way to add some festive decor, it’s meant to be used! Dry dishes, soak and clean up spills, wipe and dry hands, or use it beyond the kitchen! It’s so absorbent so it’s great to help dry wet hair or you can use it as a little bath towel. Festive functional art for the win! ✨ #microfibertowel #gingerbreadart #holidaytowel #festivedecor 📸: @soul.craft.media by @corvidaedd
In addition to commissioned illustrations I’m working on, I also will randomly take the time to illustrate a personal project I have going on. I’m anticipating it will take me a year to finish but I’m excited about it. This is one piece for that personal project. Always good to keep the ideas coming and the creative juices flowing #originalillustration #personalproject #illustratingflowers by @corvidaedd
An apron that will help you make a little magic ✨ this holiday season The Juniper + Berries Apron has been a hit so far at many in person events. It’s great for the holiday season and beyond. I love how it turned out! #christmasapron #juniperandberries #aprons 📸: @soul.craft.media by @corvidaedd
Capture the ambiance of the season with ✨Poinsettias ✨ This collection features an illustrative take on a classic holiday plant. Reds and greens will sure to bring the right amount of holiday charm to your home. I especially love it on a 100% cotton table runner. The table runners are 60” long which is great for shorter tables or as a centerpiece on a long table. 📸: @soul.craft.media really did a great job capturing the beauty of this runner on a table 💕 You can find this and more products with the Poinsettia on the website! #tablerunner #poinsettia #christmasdécor by @corvidaedd
