I'm terrible about posting here....but a little update on the RDX from last September 🤣

Did a good bit of suspension upgrades on the car, as the factory shocks were absolutely toasted on all four corners. Opted to install @bcracingna coilovers, as coilover options for the chassis are limited, and these are the best choice imo. While there, I added in SPC camber kits, fresh sway bar end links, and a Progress rear sway bar.

After some adjusting, setting the height to my liking, and a proper alignment, I'm extremely happy how the car sits. Plenty aggressive without any rubbing and no fender modifications needed. And it's now a blast to rip through the mountain roads.

I'm currently doing some quality of life interior upgrades this summer, which I will document and post as I finish them up in preparation for @classichondasonthedragon in October. Next year's focus will finally be a turbo upgrade and to make full use of all the mods I have installed and waiting.

Hello everyone! I decided to create this page to separate it from my main account. It will exclusively feature Accord content, and will provide a more in-depth look at things compared to posts on my main page. Just wanted to clear up any confusion. Now, to the good stuff.

THE BASE

A little background on the car:

The car is a 1997 Honda Accord EX coupe, and was a factory 5-speed car. It was finished in Sherwood Green Pearl, and had a factory tan leather interior. With Honda's notorious clear coat failure, the car was resprayed in the late 00s, but with single stage paint. So it has faded pretty badly at this point. But the body is pretty straight and the chassis is rust free. A respray is in order, so that will be remedied in the future.

The car currently has just over 200k miles on it. I've owned this car since 2017, but have yet to drive it. I purchased it as a 5-lug swapped rolling shell. It's getting built from the ground up. All new drivetrain, suspension components, interior, etc. The goal of the project is to make a nearly 30 year old car drive like new (but with better performance), and on the way add some modern tech and a few creature comforts, while still being very "period correct" and paying homage to the Golden Era of the Honda scene.

This project is the culmination of my 17 years of owning and modifying 5th Gen Accords. It's not about being the fastest, or building the best show car.....it's about carrying out my vision for how one of the best Hondas ever made should be built. There is no timeline. More parts will be added along the way. As a wise friend once said, "All good things take time."

My first Accord related project since I moved out to Tennessee last June. The car is still in California, but I am making the final push in buying parts, so I can finally get her running and bring her home.

This is a project that has long been in the making. I actually have a custom built set of coilovers, however when I removed them to sell my wagon, I noticed one of the rear shocks had leaked. The company that made them is no longer around, so I don't have the option to send them back for a rebuild. The end goal is to find another company that can pull them apart and rebuild them, but that will take time and research.

I also have the remains of my old Koni/GC coilover setup. I left the worn Koni shocks on one of my old Accords I sold, with plans to buy fresh ones new that I could warranty in the future. I was able to buy a new front pair, but when I went to purchase the rears, they had just been discontinued. I've looked over the past few years, but have not found any rears for sale. So I'm basically stuck with 2 coilover setups, but without functioning rear shocks 🤣.

In talking with @beanstune (who had been in a similar predicament), I decided to copy his custom coilover setup, as it was comprised of easily available parts. It also has the advantage of not drooping to stock suspension length like the Accord Konis did. At my normal ride height, the Civic shocks should be right in the middle of their optimal operating range setup as such.

Cold weather and turbo sounds

Got the catless @rv6p downpipe installed on the RDX this weekend with the help of @josh_aly . One bolt put up a solid 90min fight, but we finally prevailed. Whatever Honda engineer designed this downpipe/cat system.....I hate you.

The car is pretty loud and raucous on the outside, but the ATLP exhaust by @heeltoeautomotive does a fantastic job quelling any cabin drone and keeping noise to a respectable volume....I'm quite impressed. Its louder than my old Accords outside, but quieter inside.

With all the supporting mods in place, the car absolutely came alive with the downpipe installed, and an updated Hondata reflash got it running smoothly. The car not only pulls much harder, but much smoother through the whole Rev range.

I knocked about .5 sec (5.7) off my best 0-60 runs from before (6.2), but with the cold weather I was struggling with traction qnd spinning in 1st gear. It's probably got a 5.5 in her on a slightly warmer day. Did the 1/4 mile in 14.24, but can probably hit 13s with a better launch as well.

I still got more coming too.....including a ported intake manifold and 70mm ZDX throttle body, and then an upgraded fuel pump so I can run e85 👹

Then come spring, I'll order some new grippy summer tires and see what I can do. Stay tuned!

This photo somehow slipped through the cracks, and I never posted it despite being my favorite photo of any of the cars I've owned. And I always laugh that the Accord I modified the least, and owned for the shortest amount of time, was the one that looked the nicest.

I still have a list of things to get done on the RDX, but I definitely got the itch to begin working on an Accord again 👀 IYKYK

I didn't realize until after the day was over, that I didn't grab a single photo of the car at @classichondasonthedragon 🤣. Not mad though, as the day was spent hanging out with friends, making new ones, and getting to see some awesome Hondas the Southeastern US has to offer.

After kind of neglecting the car since moving to TN and all the craziness that entails, it was nice to set aside a day to clean up the exterior of the RDX. It's not a show car by any means, but still can be made to look decent. Shout out to everyone that stopped by to chat, and showed interest in Honda's first North American turbo car.

If you've ever been to a Chronicles Meet in California, that is the same type of vibe CHD has. Just a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts getting together to show off their love and appreciation for their cars. No drama, no competition. And as an added bonus, you get to cruise one of the most scenic and twisty mountain roads in America afterwards.

I'm glad I was able to take the RDX up the Dragon is mostly stock form, as I now have a baseline to compare it to as I continue to modify it. I've taken the car on some twisty roads, but nothing as tight as this. Definitely loads of room for improvement, but I had full confidence in the car and it's capable SH-AWD system. It works wonders slinging an SUV around those corners while feeling more like a sports sedan.

Going to leave the suspension alone over winter, but plan on grabbing coilovers and a Progess rear sway bar come spring. Along with some much stickier summer tires in place of the all-seasons. The car should have a nice bump in power by then as well, once a few more parts are installed and I can finally get it tuned.

And yes, one of those mods is to replace the fluttering stock bypass valve with a quieter Turbosmart option.....I was sick of the constant sneezing by the end of the drive 🤣

A little continuation from my last post...

When installing the front mount intercooler setup, I noticed a large amount of oil seeping from the valve cover gasket. And like any true enthusiast....why just fix when you can upgrade as well?

I picked up a powdercoated valve cover from @cuvrd_ , since the factory RDX one with its odd design to clear the top mount intercooler was no longer needed. I added the slick @hybridracing oil cap and dipstick, and @speedfactoryracing titanium hardware. And of course fresh OEM gaskets and new spark plugs.

Finished off the engine bay refresh with a full degrease getting probably 100k miles of dirt and oil removed. It actually looks presentable now.

Oh, and a @hondata_inc Flashpro to start pulling some extra power out of her. Just need to grab some larger injectors, and throw in my downpipe to really have some fun!

Got some new goodies for the RDX. Ditched the top mount intercooler setup for a custom front mount. Will eliminate any heat soak issues, especially during summer. The increased power is definitely noticeable already. And is pretty much setting the foundation for what comes next 👀. The intercooler is virtually umdetectable with the bumper installed.

Got another project next weekend, swapping the valve cover gasket and spark plugs, as well as installing an upgraded transmission cooler.

Then on to the fun stuff, making more power 🥵

As I near 1 year of ownership of the RDX, I realized I haven't really shown any updates since purchasing the car last February. I've actually done pretty well to avoid modifying the car, instead focusing on maintenance and de-ricing everything the previous owner did.

First off was removing all the faux carbon fiber trim on the front bumper, and ALL over the interior. I also replaced the ripped leather armrest and door rests (common wear items). All that remains on the inside is fresh leather skins for the ripped front seats.

I built my own true cold air intake, as aftermarket options are limited, and I wasn't going to pay $400 for a K&N 90 degrees elbow with a filter. I also got my hands on a discontinued RV6 catless downpipe. Will definitely be making it on the car, but in the meantime I need some supporting mods (injectors, Hondata) to install first.

I also swapped the OEM wheels for a set of 19x9.5 +35 @ssrwheels GTX01s with some grippy 275/40 rubber. Such a huge improvement in handling.

And lastly, I replaced the disgusting "tinted" lights on the car, with a fresh set of OEM housings, with all new HID and LED bulbs. It's nice to finally be able to see at night.

Hopefully, after a few more maintenance items, I can finally get going on the mods. The side mirrors and chrome door handles will be wrapped in black to delete all the chrome from the exterior. The car is already fun to drive, but is begging for more power and upgraded suspension!

P.S. boost noises are addicting

I don't most on here much anymore, but I'm super excited to shortly be trading Southern California's concrete jungle for Tennessee's vast swaths of greenery!

California has been home to me my whole life, and while it is a beautiful state, the past few years it has felt less and less like home. As my life and career goals and perspective on certain things have changed, I've realized that the state I've called home all these years just wasn't an ideal environment to accomplish my goals.

After a ton of research, and visits some prospective states, the second I set foot into Tennessee last year, I knew this was the place. The laid back atmosphere, low population density, and vast access to nature are all things I was searching for.

I'm hoping to be fully moved before Thanksgiving this year. So if you're going to be in or around Chattanooga, TN in the future, holla!

I'll never forget California, for the friendships, family, and food that it offers. But excited (and a bit nervous) to move on to this next chapter of life ✌🏼

This was a tough one to process. As soon as I heard you were gone, the years of memories came back like crashing waves.

Nicole, though I may never have told you in so many words, the effect you had on my life helped shape me into who I am today. You came into my life at a time when I needed it most. And the rest of the bums like me who ended up basically living at your parent's house for all those years, are friendships and memories that I'll cherish forever. Your smile could turn a bad day around in an instant, and your no-nonsense advice was always exactly what I needed, (whether I wanted to hear it or not).

You were the first person who was always down try adventurous new food with me. You and your parents adopted me into your family like no one else ever had. Even your half-wild cat accepted me. You were always down for playing basketball, even if everyone was twice your size. And I'll always remember the look on your face when you'd check Google, after I spouted off some random fact that in your eyes could never be true (it almost always was 🤣).

Watching you finish school and realize your dream of becoming a Sheriff Deputy was amazing. Your passion for helping people in need was something that was evident from the first day we met. Though you are no longer here with us, your memory and legacy will live on through everyone's life you touched.

You were the most gangster Gumby that there ever was. Love ya, and I'll see you again someday (I'll probably fall asleep on the couch first, though) 💙

Mr. & Mrs. Vera, Ely, and the rest of the family, thank you for adopting me into your family. I don't think I can ever truly put into words what it means to me and how it shaped my path in life. Love you guys, and I'm praying for ya'll during this time.
