My path as an undrafted player…

$8,000 signing bonus to Detroit.

Cut, placed on P squad.

Signed by Cowboys Dec 2005.

Made the team 2006.

Started 14 games and played in all 2007-09.

Cut in 2010 and sign in Miami.

Thursday night playing Chicago, 2nd series, rupture patellar tendon.

NFL career done.

Made minimum 5/6 seasons.

Today, I own @procapitaltx and my family is better off now then we ever were.

How you start should never determine how you end.

Money has a funny way of exposing people.

Fame works the same way. I heard it again not long ago that “money changes people.”

Totally not the case.

Money exposes character. Good or bad.

I’ve seen people turn at the death of a loved one into what seemed like a completely different person.

The reality is the person was either hiding under the fold the whole time or the character flaw was small enough to where you couldn’t see it till is was on blast.

I see it more and more. God, ultimately has to deal with a person’s heart but if we want our children to come up respecting the weath we’ve built, we need to include them. on coversations, deals, business structure, sales meetings, etc.

They need real world experience to have a deep emotional connection and respect.

I spent six years in the NFL. I watched teammates make more money in one season than most people make in ten, and I watched a lot of it disappear.

Thanks to NBC 5’s Newy Scruggs, MBA for having me on to talk about it.

Entrepreneurs face the same problem:

-A big liquidity event.
-A short window to get it right.
-A CPA, an attorney, and an advisor who never talk to each other.

Making the money is one thing. Keeping it takes a different skill set.

Envisioning your dreams is critical.

I recalled this memory while throwing catch on the field with my boys.

I used to lift weights in HS and envision myself walking up to the line of scrimmage at Montana.

I used to envision having a huge crowd when my brother and I used to throw bombs in the front yard to each other.

When my sights turned to business post ball, I envisioned a company that was the top firm to work at.

The top firm entrepreneurs just had to work with.

Everyone wants to be a part.

It’s like the Cowboys. Every coach or player wants to work there at some point in their career.

Whatever yours might be, make sure you can see it while you’re working.

Don’t buy in to the false belief that everything and everyone else has to submit to your work.

Bring them on the ride.

I’ve gotten clients while on vacation (and lost them).

The ones that didn’t like my travel or time with the family weren’t the ones to grow with us.

The ones that loved it were the ones that wanted the same thing.

A strong marriage, great kids, awesome faith, and then a great business that fed their adventure and time together.

Don’t believe it.

You can have it all.

Just make the choice. by @coryprocter
