“Unmasked in Joy” | 24x30in Acrylic on Canvas

Hi beautiful people! I have another finished painting under my belt. I thoroughly enjoyed making this! This is my second year creating artwork for the Behind the Mask Gala 2026, hosted by Aaya Casa Domestic Violence Advocate.

This artwork is an invitation to look beyond appearances and recognize the stories of others that often go unheard. There are so many people who have gone through difficult situations, including domestic violence, who get up every day and put on a smile despite the pain they’ve experienced. Yet, they still make the effort to bring joy to themselves and the people around them. Oftentimes, people don’t get the chance to tell their stories and process their experiences.

“Unmasked in Joy” is a celebration of the beauty of becoming, joy, and self-expression.

One of my favorite parts of creating is watching an idea slowly take form. Sharing a few moments from the beginning of a commission that will be donated to a nonprofit. Art has so many ways of connecting us. 🤎

✨🎨Returning to play🎨✨
Quick video experimenting with oil pastels! I love this medium because of the texture! Pastels are so buttery you can blend the most beautiful colors.

My work almost always has at least three distinct figures or focal points. Here, we have a goddess crowned with a fiery fro; to her left, a bare-chested king adorned with layered necklaces, a strange sculptural headpiece, and a long long wisdom-beard; and above them, a dynamic female figure stretching across the composition.

“Orange Moon”✨🎨
Afro-Eclectic Artwork. 24 x 24in Acrylic on Canvas for sale.

The blue adinkra symbol on the bottom means “friendship”. This work symbolizes power and authenticity that only comes from within. Reminding us to always give ourselves our own flowers and that it’s possible to be both confident and reflective.
