Elephant Trunk Nebula! I shot this over two nights using the Askar Color Magic D2 filter and SVBony 220 dual band filter to create the beautiful SHO palette. The Elephant Trunk is part of a much larger nebula region called IC 1396 about 2400 light years away. The massive pillar of gas and dust making the trunk is shaped by intense solar winds from massive nearby stars.

The beautiful Rosette Nebula! This huge emission nebula lies in the constellation Monoceros, about 5000 light years away. The nebula also includes an open star cluster with thousands of stars responsible for the vibrant emissions. This is easily my best shot yet of this great winter nebula!

This might be my best shot of the night. Approaching peak intensity before the sky went full pink. It was at this point when the colors became fully visible to the naked eye, unbelievable!

The starlit canyon. Poudre Canyon and Poudre River are always beautiful, but I love the serenity of this place at night, illuminated by thousands of stars. For the canyon shot I perched on a hill above Stove Prairie Rd and waited for the Milky Way to align with the highway. I used a star tracker to get a long exposure of the sky, bringing out the intricate detail of the galactic light. The river shot was an untracked shorter exposure.

Zodiacal light and the Milky Way merge in the predawn hours above beautiful Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota. Fall mornings reveal a phenomenon called "false dawn" or zodiacal light, a pyramid of light stretching up from the Eastern horizon. This luminous natural glow is caused by sunlight reflecting off cosmic dust and is best observed about 90 min before sunrise from a dark location with an unobstructed view to the East. In spring you can see the zodiacal light 90 min after sunset to the West.

I finally got into the Rocky Mountain NP backcountry this summer and was treated to a spectacular view of the Milky Way over Yipsilon Lake with Sundance and Chapin peaks on the horizon. Against the dark sky the Milky Way was vibrant and rich. Each star felt like a spotlight. The only sound was the splash of Cutthroat trout jumping in the lake. Can't ask for much more in the backcountry.

The Lion Nebula! I spent several nights capturing this awesome target (Sh2-132) from my driveway with the @sharpstaroptics Askar 120, @zwoasi 2600 mcpro, and the @svbony 220 dual band filter. The Lion Nebula is a large emission nebula, rich in hydrogen, in the constellation Cephus about 10,000 light years away.
