Roni Horn appreciation post.

Untitled ("The sensation of longing

2013.

Cast glass, I gaze into the work from a clear surface like its water. The dual texture is crazy. Liquid and solid Glass is so cool.

The top surface is fire-polished and slightly bows like liquid under tension. So seductive.

The endless subtle shifts in the work’s appearance through changing natural light place it in an eternal state of mutability, as it refuses a fixed visual identity.

‘Water changes state, weather changes everything ‘

Katharina Grosse
Black Bed. 2026 is a response from her residency working in the studio of Munch.

Other works are site situational, the floor integral to the work. It smelt of spray paint in this newly installed work. The floor was covered prior to the spray painting with vinyl....

Dark Adaptation is a show within a sculpture park, Kistefos in Oslo, Norway . It offers space for projects by new curators . ‘Dark Adaptation’ was curated by Abirami Logendran. #abiramilogendran

#wolfgangtillmans

Jack Whitten, Doris Guo, Glenn Ligon, Solveig Lønseth, Lorna Simpson, and Wolfgang Tillmans.

In moving from the outside sculpture park in bright daylight to this darkened space I had to adjust see details that were previously unseeable.

Drawing on Martinican poet and philosopher Édouard Glissant and the ‘right to be opaque’ , the curator has gathered together the work of these artists. Some I’ve focussed on in the pics. Wolfgang Tillmans work is of TV static . Looks monochromatic until you look harder at the spectrum of colours .
Doris Guo has three works interspersed by the entry to the exhibit. I was immediately drawn to the rock of course . Through the urge to touch it, it asked for a less dominant sense to engage with the work. The other two works were mezzotints of darkness that through slow looking revealed some kind of mysterious image.

For Glissant , identity and culture are relational. We and works of art do not need to be fully understandable or transparent but through relationality understanding begins. by @cossp.art

I made a special visit to the Future Library in Bjørvika Oslo. The Silent Room in Deichman Bjørvika - built from trees cleared from the forest, is the resting place for manuscripts/anthologies written by invited participants from 2014 to 2114.

Also connected to this project Inside the Nordmarka wilderness area in Oslo stands a forest within the forest: The Future Library.

If you are unaware of this amazing project by artist Katie Paterson , here is some info.

On Wednesday 8th of June 2022 the Future Library Trust and the City of Oslo signed a 100-year contract. The agreement promises that the Future Library forest will remain in the hands of the Trust for the next 100 years, protected trees on which the anthologies will be printed in 2114.

The art project thought up by Scottish artist Katie Paterson and commissioned by Bjørvika Utvikling, consists of planting a forest to grow the materials for a unique library for people living one hundred years from now.
“With the city surrounded by trees, I imagined the forest may be part of people’s psyches in a more pronounced way. Perhaps a 100-year artwork might be received and thought about differently.”

In 2014, along with local foresters and a small team, she planted 1,000 Norwegian spruce trees in Nordmarka. They picked out the seeds from the surrounding forest and sealed them in white wax to ward off weevils.

The fate of the trees has also been sealed, a full century in advance. In the year 2114, they are to serve as paper pulp for the printing of an anthology by one hundred authors, one per year. Each will contribute one unpublished text, its length and contents a secret even to Paterson.

Margaret Atwood was the first to be invited to participate with a manuscript in 2014.

LAA 3/5 Melbourne . Fck yeah .
LAA is a loosely formed art group of long term artist friendships and who initiate interstate and international art trips based on a whim or in support of each other’s practice attending their shows, performances , biennales and other art engagement. We love to go deep into discussion or critique about what we see. Amongst us we know some shit. For this trip we know which bar offer the best margaritas and which one doesn’t do great Espresso Martini. Amongst some serious tram trekking , we loved exhibitions Ngarn Wa’ngal: Art of the gum tree at the Ian Potter Museum and Are You Lonesome Tonight at ACCA. by @cossp.art

Lately I’ve been working with copper powder and pigment in my painting . Copper is a material reflector and its capacity to change through oxidisation makes it more temporal. It undoes itself as a painting subject and object. This peripheral , sideways looking can only be situationally understood as Donna Haraway would say. Situated Knowledge and partial perspective is about being with / alongside.
Work 1. Smelt
Work 2. Fluxing
Work 3. Intrusion. Like a tourmaline.
Work 4. Porphyry

Installed today in a third site is something I’ve been working with for different sites and different circumstances enjoying the challenge of engineering the install indoors and out utilising what’s at hand with makeshift weights, hooks, and elevations securing placements with pink builders string. Light and space environmental challenges, such as the weather, change the situated architecture of its form and colour . Hand sewn , a deconstructed A frame tent in satin and semi transparent organza , remnant pieces of textile from previous work , the pinks allude to to the bodily element of house soft angles walls and slopes . Conjuring up a bit of central core but also constructing like painting. This was a test piece for a work with another on the tent as a locus for shelter which is about to be installed on a rooftop at the Beechworth Biennale next week March 7 8 9 , 2026. by @cossp.art
