Cotton Brazil participated in the Textile Exchange Conference 2026, held this October in Vancouver, Canada. The event brought together experts and representatives from the fashion, textile, and apparel industries from different countries to share knowledge and discuss new ways of producing, selecting, and reusing materials, with a focus on more sustainable practices across the sector.

Brazil’s participation, with a particular focus on the ABR program, demonstrated how the country is already putting into practice the theme of this year’s edition, “The Implementation Era”: turning sustainability commitments into verifiable actions at scale.

Brazilian cotton joined the global discussion on the future of fibres at the ITMF Annual Conference 2026, held in Fortaleza.

Haroldo Cunha, President of Agopa and former President of Abrapa, took part in Session 2: Future of Fibres, discussing what it will take for cotton to expand its role in the global market.

The conversation highlighted the importance of innovation, new technologies, product performance and stronger communication around the attributes of natural fibers.

Cotton Brazil was also present with its technical consulting team, connecting with the international textile industry and sharing knowledge to support better performance in the use of Brazilian cotton.

For Brazil, the next challenge is clear: turning leadership in volume into greater recognition and value for its fiber in the global market.

Brazilian cotton is taking part in this year’s ICA agenda with an important opportunity to connect directly with the international market.

The traditional Cotton Brazil luncheon brought together more than 200 participants, including buyers and other industry representatives, for an update on the Brazilian crop and discussions on quality, sustainability and certification.

Over the next few days, the Brazilian cotton sector will continue participating in ICA discussions and exchanging perspectives with trading companies and other players across the global cotton value chain.

Istanbul also brought an important announcement: next year’s ICA event will be held in São Paulo, Brazil.

Brazilian cotton is at ICA Trade Event Istanbul for a strategic week of dialogue with the global cotton community.

On October 13, the Cotton Brazil Luncheon brought together textile manufacturers, traders and industry leaders to discuss the 2025/26 Brazilian crop results, the outlook for 2026/27 and Cotton Brazil’s strategy for the coming years.

Quality, responsible production, natural fibers and the campaign addressing microplastics were also part of the discussions. The meeting created an opportunity to present Brazil’s progress, listen to partners and better understand the expectations of different markets.

The agenda continues on October 14 and 15 at the official ICA Istanbul 2026 program, bringing Brazilian cotton closer to key decision-makers across the international value chain.

Good cotton starts with healthy soil. 🌱

In Brazilian cotton farming, soil care involves practices designed to protect its structure, fertility and biological activity.

The Responsible Brazilian Cotton Program (ABR) encourages crop rotation, permanent soil cover, erosion control and responsible fertility management on certified farms. These practices help improve water retention, maintain organic matter and reduce soil degradation over time. ABR Cotton
In the 2024/25 season, 75.3% of ABR-certified farms reported using cover crops, including brachiaria, millet and sunn hemp.

Taking care of the soil means protecting one of the foundations of cotton production, season after season.

Analysis of Brazil’s 2025/26 cotton crop continues to advance.

By the end of September, 10,199,574 bales had already been tested by HVI, representing 54% of the approximately 19 million bales projected.

The results show important advances in key fiber characteristics such as length and strength, alongside continued improvements in the reliability of the analyses. Of the volume tested, 59% has already been certified by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock through the Brazilian Cotton Quality Program.

The data is consolidated by Abrapa based on information from the 14 laboratories participating in the SBRHVI Program and helps track the quality characteristics of Brazil’s cotton production.

Recebemos a @abrapabrasil na ApexBrasil para celebrar o Dia Mundial do Algodão, em 7 de outubro. Desde 2020, estamos juntos no @cottonbrazil , levando o nosso algodão a novos mercados.

Entre agosto de 2025 e julho de 2026, foram 3,374 milhões de toneladas exportadas e US$ 5,3 bilhões em receita. A China foi o principal destino, com mais de 770 mil toneladas.

Brazil is already taking the discussion around natural fibers and microplastics further.

During the 15th Brazilian Cotton Congress, experts from the cotton industry, retail, science and public policy came together to discuss how the growing use of synthetic fibers connects with environmental and public health concerns - and why natural fibers deserve a stronger place in this conversation.

One of the initiatives emerging in Brazil is @microplastico_ofimdalinha, a movement created to bring more information about microplastics to the public and encourage a closer look at the materials we wear and consume.

The discussion is also about reconnecting people with natural fibers and expanding awareness across the entire value chain. At the Congress, this agenda brought together representatives from production, retail, fashion, science and public policy.
