"Him/Her" Oil on Panel. 2021 ➡️ For images of the drawing and poster study.

This is a little throwback to a small painting I made back in 2021. I was looking through some photo archives; I really like the setup here, makes it easy to see the process acquired from Tony at @theryderstudio .

Began with a drawing study of the pear (graphite on toned paper) followed by a poster study. The poster is a study of the light in color at a smaller, manageable scale. These created references then serve as a road map during the making of the actual painting.

I recently taught a portrait drawing workshop at my studio here in Santa Fe and this was the demo from the class. Thanks to the lovely @cora_dey for modeling for us; you're the best!

Thanks also to the wonderful students who participated and made the workshop possible. I had the best time with you all. 💕
