AlertSLO: CAL FIRE is at scene of a vegetation fire NB 101 at the Cuesta Grade. Highway 101 in both directions are experiencing heavy traffic delays. Shortly after 8:00 AM, Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office North Station located a suspect vehicle in the Hampton Inn parking lot in Paso Robles with the assistance of an Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

The suspect was known to Deputies and had an active no-bail felony warrant for carrying a loaded firearm, possession of narcotics while armed with a firearm, and stalking. He also had an active $15,000 misdemeanor warrant for violation of a domestic violence restraining order. The suspect had previously made statements to family members about wanting to commit suicide by cop.

As Deputies attempted to take the suspect into custody, his vehicle struck a Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle and fled. Deputies initiated a pursuit on Highway 101.

The pursuit eventually traveled southbound on Highway 101. Deputies terminated the pursuit due to public safety concerns. Shortly afterward, the suspect was involved in a traffic collision south of Niblick Road.

After the collision, the suspect remained inside his vehicle and refused numerous commands from law enforcement. A member of the Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team made multiple attempts to contact him by phone in an effort to gain compliance and reach a peaceful resolution.

A Sheriff’s Office UAS Team member also utilized a drone placed on the hood of the suspect’s vehicle to maintain a visual of the vehicle’s interior.

After approximately 20 minutes, the suspect exited his vehicle and immediately pointed what appeared to be a handgun at members of the Sheriff’s Office and Paso Robles Police Department, prompting an officer-involved shooting.

Today marked a long-awaited milestone
on the ultimate completion of the Bob Jones Pathway. Construction is officially underway on the next segment of the pathway that will eventually lead to an uninterrupted “city to sea” connection for cyclists, walkers and runners.

This 1.5-mile segment will create a new multi-use path between the Octagon Barn and Clover Ridge Lane, providing a safer and more accessible route for bicyclists and pedestrians. It is the first phase of the larger effort to close the remaining gap between San Luis Obispo and the existing Bob Jones Trail at Ontario Road—and ultimately strengthen the trail connection all the way to Avila Beach.

After decades of planning, it was wonderful to join community members and project partners to celebrate this important step forward. Projects like this improve safety, expand transportation choices and give residents and visitors another beautiful way to experience San Luis Obispo County.

Thank you to everyone whose persistence and partnership helped bring this vision closer to reality. We can’t wait to watch the progress!

The Sheriff’s Office (@slosheriff) has issued a press release regarding an officer involved shooting incident in Paso Robles.

On 9-17-2026, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Deputies became involved in a vehicle pursuit with a male suspect wanted in connection with a felony stalking case.
Deputies initially attempted to contact the suspect while he was inside his vehicle in a parking lot in Paso Robles. The suspect accelerated back striking a Sheriff’s Patrol Unit. He sped off and a pursuit began.
The pursuit continued northbound on Highway 101 before the suspect turned around near Mission Street in San Miguel and began traveling southbound. A spike strip was attempted several times. As the suspect approached Paso Robles, the Sheriff’s Office terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle at that time.
The suspect later crashed his vehicle while traveling on Highway 101 and came to a stop along the side of the highway near the Niblick road overpass in Paso Robles. Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect along with a member of the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team. The suspect remained inside his vehicle.
The suspect then exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at Sheriff’s Deputies and officers with the Paso Robles Police Department. Shots were fired, and the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three Paso Robles Police Officers and two Deputies were directly involved in the shooting. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Professional Standards Unit will conduct investigations into the incident. The California Highway Patrol will conduct a concurrent investigation.
There is no threat to the public at this time.
This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. by @countyofslo
