About 6 years ago, Preacher Lawson came and performed a comedy show at the Nuke School base that was free for us.

At that time, I was in a horrible situationship, being led on, lied to, and mistreated. I was absolutely lovesick and miserable every day. It was a very awful period of my life, for many reasons.

I had watched Preacher live on America’s Got Talent with my family prior to this, so I knew who he was but the show on base was something I discovered last-minute.

None of my shipmates were available or interested in going, but I decided to go alone.

That’s lesson one- never be afraid to do things alone. I’ve done it for restaurants, movies, and even traveling other countries. We want to share those experiences with pre-existing connections but how about sharing it with ourself and connecting with new people?

Lesson two- a good few jokes can really bring up morale and shift someone’s perspective. I never got into comedy to perform in Japan or to be talked about at conferences. I started comedy unprofessionally and in conversation during the military when people were depressed, suicidal, anxious, and down. You never know how far a little cheering up might go.

Most believers keep within their own little bubble when it comes to evangelism and cross-cultural exchange. They're either afraid to talk to others, uninterested, or just hateful.

As believers, we aren't called to hate Muslims, Jews, Hindus, or any other political or religious system. We are called to pray for them, to build relationships with them, and to even serve them.

Cultural engagement doesn't automatically equal religious compromise. So, where do respectful service and establishing boundaries meet?

Super grateful to have been able to reconnect with Dr. Russ Barnes and his wife at Military Influencer Con, having met both of them prior at @militarycreatorcon just a few months ago.
