Here's how the tank is looking lately...

I've made a few subtle tweaks, opting for more definition and bold colour blocks. Bringing the large Green Star Polyps island that previously lit up the back, to the middle to prevent it getting choked out by Caulerpa. Thinning out sections of macroalgae and allowing it to be denser in other areas. You can't see it yet but I've also spread the Blue Ochtodes in a few places for continuity. I think the changes have and will continue to reinforce the layers within the tank.

I've started a zoa garden on the front left rock. I can't express how much I despise frag plugs but I know they'll grow over them in time! That rock was also covered in nuisance algae and so I experimented with dipping a whole half of the rock in hydrogen peroxide. It turned out really well and the algae has not returned. I think I'll need to do this gradually with all the other the rocks over time to eliminate whatever it is that's plaguing me.

The fish are doing really well too, but I think it's time for some new friends. What would you add? 🐠

It's been several years since I've made a terrarium, and making this one reminded me why I like them. There's a peace and focus in the process and in those moments, nothing can distract you from creating that world. It's similar to aquascaping but the tempo is somehow even lower.

I have no idea how long this structure will last since it's an experiment. I used something sentimental; heather from the moorlands of the Isle of Skye. It echoes Manzanita in many ways with its grit and gnarliness, but it being native and personally collected feels all the more special. The planting is loosely inspired by Colombian cloud forests.

I have also never tried precision tips for glue until @moss.uk kindly sent me some, and what a game changer! You can't even tell any glue was used, can you?

The last thing I'll do is add some springtails to keep keep things in order and let it mature.

I had to disprove a theory that dirty lily pipes were contributing to the growth in this tank. Results; dirty lily pipes DO NOT in fact contribute to the growth in this tank. The upside? The lily pipes are clean.

The orchid that I originally had in here didn't make it. I presume it was much too bright and hot! I think I'll go with the tried and tested Schoenorchis fragrans. In the meantime, the springtails will play sandman. 🌺
