Hate is such a strong, powerful and deeply emotional word for me to use.

It often affects me physically and emotionally, draining me of energy.

Accidentally causing harm to an animal can be devastating.

Purposeful causing harm to an animal, to literally be aware and actually support harm to animals??

A much stronger word than hate…

Shame.

The lowest of his low

Music lovers: Get this book! His book tour continues, if in your area GO! Such a fun evening is guaranteed.

**PITTSBURGH! Feeling golden tonight at Stay Gold Books! Thank you to all who joined me and Tome' Cousin in Regent Square on a gorgeous Saturday evening to celebrate A NIGHT AT THE DISCO. I'm grateful to Stay Gold owners Corey and Carrie Wittig for their generosity. They exemplify what it means to create a supportive space for authors and readers to gather together and share the kind of intimacy that only comes through conversation. And they played Labelle all night!

I bow to the force of creativity that is Tomé Cousin, distinguished Professor of Dance in the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University and Broadway veteran! He led a thought-provoking Q&A with me about the experience of writing the book and the evolution of disco as a genre of music that has roots in several styles, as well as a cultural phenomenon, plus his own experiences going to discos in Pittsburgh and NYC clubs like Paradise Garage and The Saint. Beyond the interview, however, Tomé also brought me to two Pittsburgh landmarks in Shadyside earlier today: Pamela's Diner — known for its hotcakes — and Eons, a vintage clothing boutique owned by his longtime friend, Richard Parsakian. Throughout our brunch about all things music, we also realized that we both attended the same Nona Hendryx concert at Joe's Pub in 2002 where Nona invited him onstage to dance during "I Sweat." Amazing to think that was 24 years ago!!

A big thank you to Christopher Davis for connecting us. The whole day — this whole tour, in fact — was a testament to the power of music in bringing people together ... Thank you Tomé! And now back to NYC before the next leg begins on May 22! by @cousintome
