We’re not normal.

Most people are built for comfort. A warm bed. A locked door. A reason to stay inside.

Something in us got wired different. We head out at last light and don’t come back till 2, 3 in the morning. Sometimes we watch the sun come up from a booth at Waffle House, still in our gear.

We’ve got more money in our optics than most people have in their truck. So we can sit in the dark and watch a field nobody else on earth is watching.

Froze half to death one month, eaten alive by bugs the next. Doesn’t matter. We go anyway.

We run the call. We wait. Some nights nothing happens. So we do it again the next night.

We quit trying to explain it a long time ago. But every one of us knows the four seconds. When it commits. When it comes in hard on a string and everything in your head goes silent for the first time all week.

That’s the part they’ll never understand.

While the rest of the world is asleep, we’re out here reminding predators who the real predator is.

There’s something about coyote hunting that’s hard to explain to someone who doesn’t do it.

Maybe it’s the challenge. The unpredictability. The satisfaction of honing a craft.

Or maybe it’s just being out there, away from the noise of everyday life, doing something that demands your full attention.

Predator hunting came into my life as a challenge. Somewhere along the way, it became more than that.

It gave me long nights outdoors, a difficult craft that demands my full attention, and a community of people I’m grateful to know. It carried me through seasons when I needed the quiet more than I understood at the time.

I’m grateful for every stand, every lesson, and every friendship built in the dark.

Some people chase comfort.

Others chase approval.

A few are driven by something they can’t explain.

Not louder.
Not flashier.
Just unwilling to settle for ordinary.

Not everyone understands coyote hunting.

Fewer understand the mindset.
