A rainy, moody first Sunday of October is just the kind of day I wanted. We are home from vacation, and I woke up in a dream. I love the beach, but I sure love Tennessee more. I captured these images on the way home and from our yard after picking up my grocery order this morning. Lots of food prep, laundry and kitty cat snuggles are on the agenda today. There is no place like home, especially when you’re blessed enough to live in Tennessee. by @cozy_as_ever

Verity: Book vs. Movie 🍿
My friend, Tammy Kate, convinced me to read Verity in 2022, stating it was the most messed up book, and I HAD to read it! So with that description I could not resist. I did read it. I did like it. We had so much fun discussing it. And, it was truly messed up BUT I love me some unlikable characters and rich people doing bad things, so it was a win for me. Fast forward to 2026 and the release of the movie, Verity. I could not wait for it to come to screen. I even convinced Tammy Kate and our mutual friend, Lauren, to meet up in Gatlinburg to watch it with me. Yes, we planned a whole long weekend away with our husbands around this movie. I had heard mixed reviews, so I was a bit worried. My brother hated it…Said it was the worst movie ever 🤣 Armed with this info, I decided to just go in without reviewing the details of the book and with an open mind 🎥

So, here goes…

I liked it a lot! Even though a few details were different (number of kids, disposing of body in a different way) the story line and the feeling of the book came through for me. It was dark. It was twisted. And yes some of it was ridiculous. But I still think they did the story well! And I’m so happy we chose to watch it together. Shoutout to the wonderful movie going experience at Governor’s Crossings Movie Theater in Pigeon Forge @stadium_14 Most comfortable seating, ease of on-line ordering, and refillable self-serve popcorn and drink stations were outstanding!!! 🍿🎬🎞️ by @cozy_as_ever

I cannot believe I hadn’t read this one, even though of course I’d heard of it. I knew only that it was a story that has stood the test of time, but I had no knowledge of what it was about before reading it. I decided to read it now for a fall reading project that I’ve assigned myself after being inspired by @headyreads (I love doing reading projects and was so grateful to find this one!) The suggestion to read this in early September seemed odd to me, as I imagined the garden coming to life in spring, which is a time of renewal. I thought the story would be about a little girl frolicking in a whimsical garden. I was shocked to discover the little girl was neglected and lonely, and the garden under lock and key. The house in the book is full of closed doors, peculiar people & secrets. It is downright spooky. There is wailing within & an absent homeowner. Let me enlighten you to the fact that this novel was about so much more than I could have imagined. It started out slow and depressing, like a winter garden, but as the story progressed everything & everyone came alive during the seasons, just like a garden bursting forth. I fell in love with the characters in this book. I felt every emotion reading this heartwarming story of grief, hope, recovery, faith & love. God isn’t mentioned in the pages, but there is no doubt the author made sure He is the secret in the garden of all these characters lives. It is an unforgettable novel, and I hope you’ll read it some day. (My beautiful copy was published by The Pauper Press in 2025.) by @cozy_as_ever
