I think I've found my new hobby to obsess over. 🫣

This was my first page from the book that comes with the CocoWyo x Ohuhu set.

Tried my hardest to do an attempt at shading this time, still not completely happy with it but don't think it turned out totally awful. 🥹

Have you ever tried a colouring book? 💭

So I've been getting back into colouring again, and the Cosy Classics Colouring book by @danielamassironi_art was the most perfectly adorable book to jump back into the hobby with! 😊

There's so many really cute illustrations, and I love that each page comes with a little snippet of story as well. 🥹

I'm still very much a colouring book newbie, so I'm not confident enough to try any fancy shading techniques just yet (I definitely need to invest in some better pens and pencils soon as well 🫣) but I can't wait to sit and have some comfy nights in doing some more pages in this book.

Thank you so much again to @danielamassironi_art and @bookbreakuk for the gifted copy! ❤️

✨️ Two For Tuesday ✨️

Kiki's Delivery Service has been one of my favourite feel-good Ghibli movies for as long as I can remember, and earlier this year I finally read the book and it only made me love her story even more!

So you can only imagine how excited I was when I found out that there's not only a second book, but there's also a third one coming out at the start of next year! 🥹

I also got lucky and managed to find these adorable publisher deluxe editions (shout out US Amazon) and as a big Jiji fan I definitely needed that sprayed edge on the second book. 🐈‍⬛️

What's your comfort series that you love to read or watch? 💭

I finally started The Knave and the Moon last night and I'm already hooked. I cannot wait to find out what happens to everyone as I have no idea how everything is going to play out. 🙈

What are you excited to read at the moment? 💭

🌸 The Scorpion and the Night Blossom 🌸

I'm a sucker for an East Asian fantasy, and I've been so excited to dive into this duology for so long! After finishing the first book though, I'm a little torn on how I feel about it so far. 😶‍🌫️

On the one hand I absolutely love the world that Amelie Wen Zhao has created. The conflicts between the Mo, the Immortals, and humans really caught my attention right off the bat. I also really enjoyed all the different people, creatures, and beasts that Àn'yīng meets during her time in the trials, and the overall atmosphere throughout perfectly captured that mythical/folklore vibe that I adore.

However, I really struggled to get on board with Àn'yīng as an FMC. When we first meet her she's this strong, independent young woman, who's spent the last 9 years fighting to protect and provide for her family. But as soon as she enters the Immortal Trials it feels like she spends the rest of the book needing to be constantly saved by people around her - whether that be the MMCs or her friends - and it got a bit tiresome after a while. I was really rooting for her to continue being this beautifully strong FMC who could hold her ground against other people in the trials, but any time she came up against danger of any kind she immediately falters and needs someone to step in to save her.

Her attitude towards Yú'chèn (a half Mo) also started to grate on me quite quickly. Its intended to be an enemies to lovers romance, and whilst I understand that she despises the Mo for what they've put her and her family through, Yú'chèn saves her and helps repeatedly throughout the trials without asking anything in return and she constantly flip flops between being grateful for his help, and spitting pure hatred and distrust at him. Honestly I was surprised that he didn't just up and abandon her, he just sort of... takes it... 🥲

All that being said something about the writing really hooked me in and I found myself unable to put it down. I'll definitely be reading The Dragon and the Sun Lotus to find out how the story ends, and I'm hopeful for there being some more development from the characters! 🌸

☃️ The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl ☃️

This was a really cute, feel-good romance story and I really enjoyed it!

The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl follows Fuyutsuki and Himuro in their day to day life - mainly revolving around their time in the office together. Both have crushes on the other but are completely oblivious to one another's feelings, and each chapter we watch as their feelings grow. The main thing that makes this stand out from other manga is Himuro is the descendent of an ice spirit, and whenever his emotions are heightened the room around them turns into a winter wonderland! ❄️

The chapters are set out in more of an episodic fashion which was interesting as it's not a style I usually read! There is definitely still a timeline for the events that happen, but it's the kinda manga you could hop in at any chapter and not feel lost on what's happening between the characters.

There's so many very cute interactions between Fuyutsuki and Himuro and I love how they both care so much about each other and spend time getting to know one another on a deeper level. Himuro's reactions were probably my favourite thing, and I loved the little tiny snowmen that would pop up on his shoulders whenever he's feeling particularly shy, it was so adorable I couldn't get enough of it. 🥹

The art style was absolutely GORGEOUS as well. I'm very picky when it comes to manga art and this one really scratched that itch perfectly for me. The characters are so beautifully drawn, and you can really feel their emotions so vibrantly in every panel, it was perfection.

If you're in the mood for something easy to hop into with some really lovely feel-good vibes and gorgeous art, then I highly recommend The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl! ⛄️

Thank you to @mantacomics for giving me access to the first volume! 💙

A Summer Country Escape

When Jack breaks up with Bets after 9 years together she's at a complete loss for who she is without him. Just as Bets feels she's finally ready to start taking back control and moving on with her life, Jack returns to the village after his own plans in Bristol fall through. Their lives are unavoidably thrown together and they can't help the memories and feelings for one another from returning in full force.

I really loved Bets as a character! Her reaction to the breakup felt incredibly relatable. At first she keeps plodding along trying to act like everything is fine, but the cracks very quickly begin to show and with the help of her friends she realises it's okay to not be okay. Watching her pick herself back up and figure out who she wants to be without Jack was lovely, and it was my favourite thing seeing her really push herself to step out of her comfort zone and putting her own wants first for once!

Despite him being the one to initiate the breakup I actually felt so bad for Jack for the majority of the book. I felt like his family and the other villagers were incredibly harsh to him, but I can definitely appreciate how protective they were over Bets considering how loved she is by everyone! I don't think Jack was a bad guy at all, but I think he was very naïve in how he went about navigating what he wanted for his own future, and I do wish he had at least one person around him that wasn't ripping into him over the break up the whole time.

The romance between Bets and Jack was very sweet and it focuses a lot on them reminiscing about their history and memories together. I would've liked more cutesy current day scenes between them to really sell the idea that they want to be back together though. I personally felt the resentment from Bets' side lasted just a smidge too long to make the relationship progression feel completely believable.

Overall, this was a really sweet and easy read, and it was definitely the perfect book to close off the summer season with! I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from Julie Caplin!

Thank you so much for the gifted copy!

🐈‍⬛️ Happy Caturday 🐈

I've been feeling very low energy and a lil out of place recently, and these two always make me feel better, so hopefully they help bring a bit of cheer to anyone else who's in their feelings at the moment. 🥺

I wanna try mixing things up with my posts going forward, but I'm drawing a blank on just how to do that. 😩

So I'm gonna make the most of the sun and snuggle up with the cats and read for today!

🐺 Happy release day to Blacktail! 🐺

This was such an incredible read, but definitely not one for the faint of heart!

If you enjoyed Watership Down I think you'll definitely be a fan of Blacktail. It's a very similar vibe in that we follow the journey of Blacktail as he seeks out the Forest God to carry out his revenge against humans after they killed his mate and unborn pups. There's a LOT of different stories from different animals that Blacktail encounters on his travels, telling tales of how humans have destroyed their homes, their families, and their lives. It's incredibly graphic and brutal at times, but the worst part about it is these animals' stories feel like they could so easily be real.

There's something so raw about books written from the perspective of animals, and I think Scott Hawkins perfectly captures the different animals' natures and how they handle their experiences with humans. Their stories range from good(ish), to bad, to downright horrific and it's hard for me to fully put into words how deeply they all hit me. Each chapter follows a different group or individual that Blacktail meets on his journey, and I love how I was made to feel such different emotions for each of them. I felt a lot of sympathy towards Mercy's pack in particular, I found that a particularly hard chapter to get through knowing how things would likely play out. 🥲

I was a big fan of Old Kitty Mother and her coven of cats that pop up wherever Blacktail goes. I love how even in this world they're seen as magical and mysterious creatures and everyone respects and fears them. Their names also gave a very much needed little bit of comic relief in an otherwise quite grim book!

This is a book that's going to sit with me for a long time, it was a difficult and uncomfortable read at times but I think it was definitely a worthwhile one.

TW : Be warned there are quite a few graphic scenes of animal violence, death, and abuse, and I personally found some of them quite hard to get through with how detailed it got at times. So if this is something you struggle with this may not be the book for you!

Thank you so much for the ARC!

The Villainess is Adored by the Prince of a Neighbor Kingdom

I'm obsessed with isekai stories and this absolutely ticks all the boxes for what you'd want from the genre!

We follow Tiararose, a woman who has died suddenly in an accident only to be reborn as a character in her favourite otome game. The only problem? She's been reborn as the villainess! When she wakes she immediately recognises the scene as the moment when she's about to be rejected by her fiance - Prince Hartneitz - and banished from the city. She peacefully accepts her fate, seeing no reason to put up a fight like her character originally did in the game, however, the mysterious Prince Aqua swoops in at the last moment to change her fate!

I really enjoyed that it added a bit of a different spin to the story compared to other isekai I've read in the past. Tiara is reborn just before the end of the first game, and she died in her past life before getting the chance to play the sequel, so she's going into the story completely blind! Honestly I really loved that as a little twist, as now she's totally forging her own path in this world without any knowledge of what might happen next.

The characters have all been really enjoyable to read about as well! Tiara is a perfect lady in society, but she doesn't take crap from anyone! She stands up for herself whilst still being respectful to those around her, and never rises to the taunts of her rival. She's (unfairly in my opinion) called a villainess, but she's really such a sweetheart and I'm really excited to see how her character develops as the story progresses.

Prince Aqua is a real charmer and if I was playing an otome game he'd be my first choice for a love interest as well. He really sees Tiara for who she is and loves her wholeheartedly. It is a bit of an insta-love connection between them, but I really didn't mind it considering the setting!

This was a really sweet and fluffy love story and I'm super excited to read more about Tiara and Aqua!

Thank you to @mantacomics for giving me access to the first few chapters! 💙

🦁 Red City - Bookish Box Edition 🦁

Red City was one of my favourite reads this year, and quite possibly even ever. 🥹

I've literally not stopped thinking about it since i finished it, so it definitely needed a permanent place on my bookshelves to remind me of the heartbreak it put me through. 🙈

I really fell in love with the @thebookishbox edition as soon as I saw it. The foiling absolutely took my breath away when I first saw it in person, and the endpapers are so stunning, they've captured Sam and Ari beautifully and this is exactly how I imagined them. 🥹

I'm really so excited for Silver Dawn to come out next year, I'm already preparing myself to be ripped to shreds by it. 😶‍🌫️

Do you like a book that can absolutely tear through your heart, or do you prefer a happy ending? 💭
