I’ve been involved with animals in some way since I was a child. For the longest time I thought I would pursue the vet profession when I was an adult. While my professional aspirations pivoted, I still felt called to help animals through volunteering, advocacy, storytelling, fundraising, TNR, transporting, fostering, and adopting.

The last few years have been absolutely devastating. Not just in the losses from personal fur babies crossing the rainbow bridge, fospice babies, and bottle babies but also the absolute shit treatment I’ve received from “fellow animal advocates.”

I don’t expect people to be perfect. I don’t expect people to have all the answers. But I do expect mutual respect, collaboration, and communication.

The animal crisis is not going to improve with how catty, cruel, and cliquey animal welfare leaders and groups have become.

How can we expect to recruit more volunteers, fosters, donors and adopters when they don’t feel welcome, heard, understood, or part of potential solutions.

I’ve had to take a step back and reassess how I’m going to continue being involved in my local groups because I would like to keep making positive impacts but not to the detriment of my own mental and physical wellbeing.

These hard conversations can’t be ignored. This crisis cannot be ignored. This community deserves more. ❤️‍🩹

It’s pretty incredible to watch true pure love and connection happen for your person. ❤️

Betty’s world revolved around @mjmccy. She was absolutely smitten with him. It always brought a smile to my face to see them play together, snuggle one another, and annoy me from time to time 😆

I’m heartbroken that this couldn’t last forever for them. I wish we didn’t know time like we do. I wish Betty continues to give her dad winks and licks while we waits for him on the other side of the rainbow bridge 🌈

Even though we knew her time was limited due to her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, we definitely let our guard down thinking our cockroach 🪳 would keep on trucking.

We love you Betty Bob Barker Cinnabon Suarez. ❤️

*Betty was named after animal advocates Betty White and Bob Barker @therealpriceisright Cinnamon was her @animalcaresolano shelter name so we changed it to something cuter just in case she didn’t respond to Betty or Bob. Suarez is after @americaferrera character from “Ugly Betty” as she was considered “ugly” by some folks due to her eye and facial growths. taken in California by @cpfry

🌈 Maggie Moo girl has been reunited with her first family across the rainbow bridge 🌈

Maggie was adopted from @animalcaresolano when she was 2 years old… 15 years ago. 😱 Her original owners had passed away when Maggie was 14, and she was abandoned at a local park. This sweet pure soul needed a Hail Mary to find a home willing to hospice her… I waited I think a week before asking @mjmccy if I could bring her home 😅

If you only remember one thing about her, it’s that she LOVED kittens. Maggie was a surrogate mom to 60+ cats and kittens over the last 3 years. She greeted all of them with such enthusiasm it brought anyone who witnessed it so much joy. 🤩 her excitement to love on them, groom them, protect them, and eventually play with them was pure love.

I am so grateful that I was her bonus mom and I was able to give her bonus time. She never stopped trying to make friends. She didn’t let her age limit her zest for enjoying life whether that was napping in the backyard with wind chimes as her lullaby, or barking at the neighbor dogs to come say hi outside.

I am going to miss her tremendously. But wow am I lucky to have such an incredible dog to wait for me across the rainbow bridge 🌈 when my time comes to go on my next non-Earthly adventure. Until we meet again, Moo. 🐮 taken in California by @cpfry

It breaks me to share that Nyla has reunited with Julio across the rainbow bridge 🌈

We are in pieces without our “sour patch kid” but find comfort knowing she is with her favorite Boo Boo Bear again.

Nyla was originally supposed to be a temporary foster while we lived in our studio apartment in Chicago. We were focused on senior cats at the time so we were surprised to receive this “older kitten” (she was actually 2). She stormed out of her carrier, be-lining for Julio with the flirtiest tail, and decided he was hers 💜 it took him two days to relent to her affections 😂

Nyla was almost adopted three times while foster with us. Before her last meet and greet, we decided if they didn’t adopt her then we would. She and Julio were together for 7+ years. She was ours for 10. It’s never enough time. 💔

There will never be another creature like her. We were so freaking blessed to have her as ours. I love you, I love you, I love you, Nyla 💜 taken in California by @cpfry

Some things have changed, but a lot has stayed the same… like my love for animals 🐱 🐶 and yoga 🧘‍♀️ and dark chocolate 🍫

I haven’t felt compelled to share much about myself or my life because I haven’t felt that I’ve had much to say. Or, at least I don’t feel I have anything “impressive” or “life-changing” to share.

I’m still figuring out what I want out of life and what happiness means to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For now I know I can make a difference with helping the animals in my community even if it means heartbreak, sleepless nights, and saying cya later as they find their forever families ❤️ taken in California by @cpfry

Sally is ready to move on from her foster home and into her forever home! Located in Fairfield, CA. Willing to travel for the right home.

She hopes to find a family that loves to play with cat dancers, has cat trees or cat shelves to climb, and has an energetic playmate who can hold their own during a wrestling match.

🐱 She is spayed, & vaccinated for rabies and FVRCP. Her new home will receive copies of all records.
🐱 Estimated to be a year old - birthday is March 2023.
🐱 She is dewormed, flea treated and FIV/FeLV negative
🐱 She is microchipped
🐱 She currently lives with other cats and dogs.

I spent most of 2023 returning to the vast realm of UX design via the @springboard.hq UX career track and received my official certification of completion earlier this month. ⭐️

This was hard, y’all. BUT I am incredibly proud of myself for sticking with it despite many many MANY obstacles that never got the memo to eff off and leave me be 😅

The work isn’t over, though. The industry is a hot mess right now. I’m definitely not at a place where I’m impressive enough to be hired, but instead of talking down to myself I’m leaning HARD into continued education and camaraderie.

I still have hella anxiety (I see you insomnia), but I’m privileged to have access to a therapist, online resources, and many cute fur friends when people are just not cutting it. 🤣

So, if you have any friends or colleagues in the UX world feel free to hook a gal up! I’d love to chat with them, learn from them, and maybe even share a few laughs along the way 🙃 taken in San Francisco, California by @cpfry

Posting this now before I go back into my sick AF coma and sleep the days away…

My hope for 2024 is that more folks do better by animals because the same people can’t do it all and we are tired of trying to do it all 🫠 by @cpfry

One of our greatest gifts this year: Miss Betty Bob Barker Cinnabon from @solanoanimalcare.

If you’re considering adding a pet to your family this season regardless if she/he/they have fur, hair, scales, or is nakey, consider rescue!

Also, make sure you have legacy plans in place for your babies as you never know what can happen in life + many assume family will help out when that is not necessarily the case. ❤️‍🩹 taken in California by @cpfry
