BRINGING IT HOME

This Black History Month, EXODUS Movement’s Reggae & Dub Club pays homage to Wolverhampton’s sound system culture, past, present and next generation.

We’re bringing together two sounds with deep roots in the city, EXODUS and the legendary STARLITE each bringing their own sound system for a heavyweight night of roots & and dub music @wlvlunalounge 🔊🔊

Representing a new generation, we’re bringing CPTN (Captain) back home to Wolves. Wolverhampton-raised and now London-based, CPTN is carrying that selector tradition forward, with a journey that’s taken him from Wolverhampton to Glastonbury, Somerset House, Royal Albert Hall, SXSW and beyond.

Different generations. Same city. Same culture

JAH, RASTAFARI

A night to honour the foundations, celebrate where we’ve come from and keep the sound moving forward.

Tickets now avaiaobe via the link in our bio

LABRUM SS27 — HANDS OF OSMOSIS

LABRUM continues its exploration of identity, migration and the layered relationship between Britain and West Africa.

Hands of Osmosis is the final chapter of Foday Dumbuya’s Osmosis trilogy, a body of work exploring the movement of people, culture and ideas between places.

Where SS26’s Cultural Osmosis explored sound as a carrier of culture, and AW26’s Threads of Osmosis turned to textiles as a living medium of identity, SS27 places the focus on the hands behind the craft, celebrating physical artistry, community and the translation of dual-heritage narratives into tangible fashion.

For LABRUM, music is never merely a backdrop to fashion; it is one of the brand’s essential materials. It gives shape and resonance to Dumbuya’s explorations of migration, identity and cultural exchange, transforming each show into a meeting point where clothing, memory and sound converge.

That relationship became tangible this season through LABRUM’s partnership with Bowers & Wilkins, with speakers incorporated directly into the runway architecture. The show’s music and score came from Sampha, continuing LABRUM’s ongoing dialogue with music artists and the role of sound within its visual and cultural language.

It felt less like a soundtrack accompanying the clothes and more like sound and fashion occupying the same space, two forms of cultural expression moving together.

For LABRUM, sound isn’t an afterthought. It’s part of the language.

The LABRUM x Dr. Martens collaboration carried the Osmosis story onto the feet, with the collection’s signature flower motif appearing across the footwear. An emblem of cultures merging and blossoming into something new

Brixton’s markets could be on their way back into community ownership.

After nearly 40,000 people signed the petition, Buy Back Brixton has now been named the preferred buyer of Brixton Village and Market Row.

The current owners have entered into an agreement with the Brixton Traders & Community Association and The Advocacy Academy on the proposed sale.

If completed, this would be the largest purchase ever brought into community ownership in the UK.

But this isn’t finished yet.

The campaign now has:

* 8 weeks to complete due diligence and exchange contracts
* Up to a further 4 months to raise the remaining funds and complete the legal and governance work.

HOW YOU CAN HELP 👇🏾

1️⃣ Sign up for updates
Follow the campaign and find out how you can continue supporting:
buybackbrixton.org ( Link in bio )

2️⃣ SHARE THE NEWS
The more visible this becomes, the stronger the campaign will be over the next few months.

3️⃣ CHIP IN IF YOU CAN
Every contribution helps move the community closer to ownership.

4️⃣ JOIN THE CELEBRATION RALLY
📍 Station Road, Brixton
📅 16 September
⏰ 6–9pm

5️⃣ SHOP IN THE MARKET
The traders are the reason this matters. They’ve carried their businesses through an intense and uncertain few months — so supporting them directly matters.

Brixton has a long history of coming together and defying the odds.

This could be another major chapter in that story.

If you signed the petition, shared it, supported the traders or simply care about the future of Brixton you’re part of it. 💚

Black On The Square was launched by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, with the first edition held on 2 September 2023. Curated by Kobi Prempeh of fynn studio, and shaped by a Community Advisory Group ensuring this reflects real community priorities: Chair Kojo Marfo of My Runway Group, Vice Chair Zerritha Brown of Camden Council, event producer Dean Carby, Royal Central’s Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE, Britain’s first Race Correspondent Nadine White, The Zoo XYZ’s Nadu Placca Rodriguez, Kintsugi Creative’s Nokuthula Hatoongo, and author-filmmaker Nubia Assata.

Now in its 4th year, this year’s theme “This is our London” says exactly what it means: Black culture isn’t on the sidelines of this city, it built it. From the main stage to the trader stalls, every corner of the square told that story.

Main stage brings Donae’O, Ms Banks, Triniboi Joocie, Damage, FIBI and Tomorrow’s Warriors. Hosted by Capital XTRA breakfast show presenters, Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie, and music continuity with Manny Norte throughout the day.

Food from across the diaspora: Ghanaian, Nigerian, Caribbean, Gambian, Afro-Brazilian — repping the full breadth of the culture on a plate.

Ludi and Dominoes, a Jamaican staple, had its own competition slots all day

Black-owned traders selling everything from African-inspired jewellery to natural skincare and handcrafted accessories, supporting the businesses that keep this culture moving.

SOUNDS OF SOLIDARITY 🌱💨🔊

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of DJing at @weliveandbreathe @shabbaparty Sounds of Solidarity on the Riverside Terrace at Southbank Centre.

For those who don’t know, @weliveandbreathe Originates from south London, its a collective and coalition of artists, activists, influencers and creatives, united in the fight for universal and equitable right to clean air. Founded by @lovessega , they are a Black-led climate and social justice organisation using an arts-led approach to advocate for climate action, racial and social justice, and to ensure that underrepresented voices are heard.

Thanks for having me @shabbaparty @lovessega 💚
