Yesterday we quietly launched FORECAST FACTORY with our first event, an intensive architectural and computational design hackathon.

The event was set up as a testbed for learning, experimentation, and developing innovative design solutions to the climate crisis.

We brought together industry, academia, and the latest technology in a collaborative contest to explore the unprecedented environmental challenges we are facing today, and in future forecasts.

As another academic year comes to a close, we’re proud to celebrate our graduating MArch 2 cohort at @themsarch 🎓

Over the past two years, our students have explored complex urban challenges through #ResearchLedDesign, #ComputationalDesign, and critical thinking. Their dedication, creativity, and resilience have culminated in a diverse body of work that reflects not only their architectural abilities but also their commitment to shaping more thoughtful and resilient urban futures.

Beyond the final submissions and the #MSADegreeShow, this journey has been defined by collaboration, experimentation, and the friendships built along the way. It has been a privilege to watch this cohort grow as designers, researchers, and future practitioners.

Congratulations to each and every one of our graduates. We can’t wait to see where your careers take you, and we look forward to following the impact you’ll make across the #Architecture profession.

THE SPATIAL INTERFACE OF URBAN VITALITY by Master of Architecture Jacob Nuttall @studio_jacobn from CPUai atelier @cpu_msa

🗣️”‘This thesis investigates how urban vitality emerges from spatial configuration, drawing on Jane Jacobs’ principle of Eyes on the Street and Christopher Alexander’s Pattern Language to understand how built form shapes behaviour, safety, and social life. Treating Trafford Wharf as a complex adaptive system, the research maps how fragmented layouts, weak permeability, and inactive frontages suppress vitality and intensify crime risk.

Through a genotype–phenotype computational framework, the thesis generates multiple spatial configurations, each tested against a multi‑criteria vitality matrix that evaluates walkability, surveillance, accessibility, and environmental performance. This iterative scoring process reveals how subtle shifts in block structure, frontage behaviour, and movement patterns recalibrate the conditions that support everyday urban life.

The selected iteration becomes a strategic prototype, demonstrating how computationally derived spatial patterns can evolve into a coherent, high‑performance urban scheme. By integrating pattern‑based reasoning, behavioural analysis, and performance‑driven evaluation, the thesis shows how design can actively cultivate safer, more walkable, and socially resilient environments, proving that urban vitality is not accidental, but a spatial outcome that can be intentionally designed.’” by @cpu_msa

A great evening yesterday at the private view of the @themsarch End of Year Exhibition 2026

It was fantastic to see the exhibition come together and, most importantly, to see the incredible work produced by our students on display after months of research, design development, and hard work. The ideas, experimentation, and ambition across the projects reflects the diverse interests and future-focused thinking that define CPU.

A huge congratulations to all of our students for their dedication and achievements throughout the year.

The exhibition is now open to the public from 6th June – 19th June.

We look forward to welcoming visitors to explore this year’s work.

In BA3, CPU students are exploring how computational approaches can support new models of learning and adaptability within educational environments.

@byerinashley’s project, Architecture That Learns, responds to changing patterns of education through an adaptable architectural framework organised around sensory gradients, adaptable pod systems and integrated environmental strategies. The proposal uses a modular track network that allows spaces to expand, relocate and reconfigure over time while maintaining environmental comfort and function needs. By positioning the project as an adaptable and evolving system, it explores how learning environments can be resilient to changing users, teaching methods and patterns of occupation.

At this year’s CPU exhibition, BA3 projects explore how #EmergingTechnologies can create new forms of public engagement with the future of cities.

@cpz.misc’s project, Technosynthesis, investigates how planning policy can become more democratic through #InteractiveMedia and #ExtendedReality.

Responding to the often inaccessible nature of policy-making, where technical language and institutional processes can limit participation, the project develops an immersive XR environment that allows users to explore speculative futures, test policy decisions, and understand their consequences in real time.

By transforming policy from a static document into an interactive experience, the project demonstrates how #ComputationalDesign and DigitalParticipation can create new opportunities for citizens to engage in shaping the future of their cities.

Our MArch 1 students are continuing to investigate #AdaptiveReuse to reimagine their #ManMet University Campus as more socially connected and responsive environments to support collective learning.

@tehtarik_satu’s project (WIP), titled “The Learning Playground” explores how movement and play can shape learning environments. Through a series of iterative spatial tests, the proposal develops a learning space typology that concentrates circulation, visibility, and social encounter.

Rather than treating circulation as purely functional, flows becomes part of the learning experience itself. Developed for a new International College, the project rethinks conventional academic spaces by organising programmes around considerations of intensity, visual connectivity, and informal interaction, rather than fixed corridors and isolated classrooms.
