Exciting studio upgrades! These custom mic covers (linen interior / hand felted exterior) were created by @tangerine____dream and @lenesang . I'm predicting that these inspired designs will change the career trajectories of these two fine artists. ❤️❤️❤️ by @cracklepopstudio

An exciting new addition to the mic locker is this matched pair of Beesneez B67/269 V2 tube condensers. So far they've exceeded expectations and we look forward to trying them on everything.

Last year's major upgrade - API The Box console + 2 Avid S1 mix surfaces and an Avid Dock. At the same time we added an Aviom Dante Headphone system for personal headphone mixes. The box console has a stereo input right at the mix buss which provides a perfect pairing with our Spectra Sonics console allowing 36 analog returns on mixdown. We are also able to record fully analog to 16 track 2" with no computers involved. Headphone mixes can be digitally distributed to the Avioms or analog through the Box's Cue sends. The Avid S1s are intuitive to use and have flying faders which are a joy during mixdown. The Dock provides many transport and automation shortcuts and tactile control over plugins.

The real upgrade is that it sounds fantastic. Fast, punchy and big. We are thrilled at the clarity in the monitor and mix path.

The custom furniture was built by Jeremy Spicer Woodworking @da_jer_bear , the upholstry (cool red armrest) by Bill Herzog @hmdukedesign with consulting from Jim Sangster @jsknifes

Happy holidays from Crackle & Pop! to you and yours. It's been a busy year for us (too busy to post much apparently) but over the next week we'll be sharing about the exciting projects we've worked on and upgrades we've made to the studio. It's a lot! We're eternally grateful to all the artists and producers that make it possible to keep improving and serving the community.

Lorenzo Posey aka “DJ Swift” (@swift22nd) helped spark one of Seattle’s most influential early hip-hop crews. Brothers Of The Same Mind was a five-piece collective featuring DJ Swift, @m.c.class, B-Max AKA Nerdy B (@bc_saunders), @official_mellow_touch, and Sin-Q AKA Sinister Minister. The group earned legitimacy through coverage in @thesource, where they were highlighted as Unsigned Hype, and their music video for “Cool Drink,” filmed at Gas Works Park, went into regular rotation on @bet.

On July 27, 1991, at RKCNDY, Brothers Of The Same Mind shared the stage with @rundmc and Tacoma’s Criminal Nation, a night still remembered in NW hip-hop.

DJ Swift’s work didn’t stop there. He formed 22nd Precinct with Samson (@samfry1971), contributing “Great Outdoors” to the 1997 compilation 14 Fathoms Deep.

Their impact continues to resonate. Brothers Of The Same Mind’s self-titled album, released in 1990, was remastered by @jackendinoseattle and reissued in 2021 through @p.i.g.records.official.

For their 30th anniversary, @dustanddoperecordings and @hiphopenterprise put out Gotta Have Style, a previously unreleased collection recorded from 1989 to 1991 and restored from original DAT masters. Remastered by @earle_holder, it includes alternate versions and nine fully unreleased cuts.

Today, DJ Swift isn’t just scratching records; he’s releasing them. His label @franklinhighfield (founded with @official_mellow_touch and @bc_saunders) produced International Lover, a 23-song reunion album that brought Brothers Of The Same Mind back together more than three decades after their first release. The 2022 project was recorded across Seattle, Los Angeles, and Atlanta and mixed by @johnny_sangster at @crackleandpopstudio. This year, the label also released @kylerapps’ Surf Tape EP produced by @dan_the_a.

👉 @asmanyweirdosaspossible is a nonprofit project honoring the people and places that shaped the PNW music scene from 1985 to 1995.

My second album, I Hope We Can Still Be Friends, is out today. Thanks for giving it a listen, a dance, a laugh or a cry; for sharing it with a friend or grandmum; for preordering support and sending loving messages and social media celebrations- you awesome music-lovin people!

For all of you who enjoy this collection of songs, I want you to know that it was a hugely satisfying life experience creating it. Every person who worked on it was an utter pleasure to be around and to witness their artful contributions- I am deeply grateful.

We did it. And by we I mean me and all of you who contributed $$ and supported me with all your heart emojis and loving words.
