@renaissancebrewing ‘Black the RIPA’ Black Rye IPA 6.66% Christchurch, NZ Been a fairly chaotic couple of weeks since getting back from Vietnam and I’ve been meaning to post about this brew because I’m an absolute sucker for a Black IPA! @renaissancebrewing have hit this one out of the park and rye addition adds some real flavour complexity. Predominantly chocolate upfront with citrus and pine but it’s towards the finish where things get interesting with an earthy & woody spiciness with a bitter finish. Quality stuff! @mcleodsbrewerynz ‘Brigadoon’ West Coast IPA 6.6% Waipu, Northland, NZ Always got to take a couple of stowaway beers when you head overseas, in my specific case - Da Nang, Vietnam, and I’ve got this great Westie from @mcleodsbrewerynz to enjoy in the blazing heat🥵 Classic styled this one, big notes of resin, pine needles and heaps of citrus wrapped around a good, heavy bitter finish. @lakemanbrewing ‘Rogue Hog’ West Coast IPA 6.7% Taupo, NZ Big thanks to @newworldnz & @fleishmanhillardnz for #gifting this one as part of the celebration that is the annual New World Beer & Cider Awards🙌 Lakeman did particularly well in the awards this year with 3 x winners which I think is top equal so well done on the achievement team. Onto the brew…definitely all about the citrus and pine this one, completely unmistakeable! Solid body, finishes long although my preference for a Westie is for a fair hit of bitterness whereas this is at the more subtle end of things. Plenty of people will enjoy that though. @alimentbrewing ‘Full Stop’ Single Hop Pale Ale w/ Riwaka from @eggershops 4.9% Riwaka, Tasman, NZ I drink a lot of beer so it does take something pretty special to blow me away - this beer from the @alimentbrewing crew has done it🙌 Somehow, at a measly 4.9%, Aliment with great support from @eggershops have knocked out a super impressive brew with such depth of flavour and an absolute showcase of the beloved Riwaka Hop. Lovely haze, oily, loads of grassiness, capsicum, ripe grapefruit and somehow, a long lingering finish completely belying its ABV. Has enough dank/diesel in it to make you think for a moment if it’s a Fresh Hop, it’s that bloody good! @mcleodsbrewerynz ‘802 Series’ Number 77 Unfiltered IPA 6.8% Waipu, Northland, NZ Got an all NZ Hop duo this time round from Waipu legends @mcleodsbrewerynz Rhapzody is fast making its mark on the hop scene (had some cracking Fresh Hops with it) and in combo with Superdelic they work beautifully together. Loaded up with Tropical Fruit, Sweet Berries, Citrus and a big that candy/lolly vibe that Superdelic is particularly good at bringing to the table. Finishes super long and just has a delicious juiciness to it. @epicbeer ‘Standing Ovation’ West Coast IPA 6.7% Auckland, NZ I have to confess it’s been a hot minute since I featured an @epicbeer on the page but with a brand new Westie to buy from @liquorlandforresthill it was hard to turn my back on it. Brewed for the @malthousenz West Coast IPA Challenge, Epic have gone big on a hop duo of Columbus & Mosaic so you can only expect something fairly bold, old school from the ‘C’ hop and flavoursome. A few sips in and writing a few notes - big and plenty of pine needles, bit of diesel, citrus and a lengthy finish with plenty of bitterness to boot. That’s a Westie! @parrotdogbeer 15th Anniversary Edition Hazy DIPA 8% Wellington, NZ 15 years in the trade! Well done to my good friends at @parrotdogbeer for such a milestone to hit! They’ve celebrated the occasion by canning this great looking Double Hazy - how’s the hop bill too… Krush Cryo, Strata, Citra Cryo & Citra🤯 Pours a thick orange hue and flavour wise it’s a densely flavoured, moreish Hazy - plenty of atypical Tropical Fruit, Orange and Citrus with the rolled oats giving a very smooth mouthfeel. Really enjoyed, thanks to PD for the #gifted brew and congrats to them again for the milestone birthday 🎁 Cheers🍻 #parrotdogbrewery #hazyipa #craftbeernz #beer by @craftbeernz

@doublevisionbrewing x @emersonsbrewery ‘Near Miss’ New Zealand Red IIPA 8.2% Wellington, NZ We’ve gone a bit rogue at the #kiwihopheads for this one - different beers, all purchased to pay homage to some of the breweries that have supported our collective so I’ve chosen this new release by the awesome team @doublevisionbrewing who have collab’d this Imperial Red IPA with @emersonsbrewery Definitely the right time of year for this style! Don’t see a lot of amped up Red IPA’d like this and what a shame - big, biscuity, malty, toffee and heaps of caramel run on through this delicious brew. @sawmillbrewery ‘Solstice’ Hazy IPA 6% Matakana, NZ Sawmill love a 6% Hazy and are very dialled in to delivering delicious and highly drinkable beers in this segment! Solstice is a really enjoyable brew - cloudy haze, big dollops of ripe Mango upfront in combo with Passionfruit and there’s some berries lurking in here too. Not intensely flavoured, just dialled back enough to let you sit and enjoy with massive drinkability and is a throughly good drop to boot! @mountbrewingco Number 13 Limited Release IPA Series: NZ Forest IPA 6.5% Mount Maunganui, NZ Apologies for the absence on Insta - been organising and completing moving house, not something I want to do again in a hurry😂 So first post in the new digs and I’m featuring a new release by my mates at @mountbrewingco with an NZ hopped IPA which features fresh Pine Needle adjuncts. Beautiful clarity in the glass, aromas of dankness, Pine and Citrus. Ripping into a few hits of it - really delicious stuff. A bit dank and oily, piney, citrus and grapefruit. Finishes dry, smooth and long. @parrotdogbeer ‘Limited Release Series Number 44’ Red IPA 7% Wellington, NZ #gifted About the only good thing in Winter is drinking Red IPA’s or Black IPA’s in my book so I’m stoked with PD’s recently release Red IPA to add to their collection! Beautiful red, coppery colour in the glass, hops are Citra, Simcoe, Amarillo, Centennial & Columbus (how’s that for a hop bill!). Delicious maltiness in combo with that classic caramel/toffee flavour you’d expect with some citrus notes present too. Finishes crisp with a lick of sweetness. Honours the style nicely, thank you PD for the sample. @alibibrewingco ‘The Royale’ American Pale Ale 6% Waiheke Island, NZ You just don’t see that many APA’s these days so I always enjoy trying out new releases and big thanks to @alibibrewingco & @mitchell.eat for sending me a sample of this new seasonal release. Pretty clean taste profile, little bit of malty caramel there but predominantly Citrus & Tropical Fruit to the fore here. Some summer berries noted too.
