Tikal, Peten, Guatemala 🇬🇹

As a history nerd. The countless hours of the history channel and National Geographic etc. I stood where one of the greatest civilizations in history once lived, thrived, and built wonders that still stand thousands of years later. The equivalent to any mega city today. NYC, Paris, London. The capital. Ancient metropolitan in the middle of a jungle with no free moving water sources nearby. 12,000 buildings that they know of. This was the Mayan version. A version FAR greater than previous understandings. Every step through those ancient paths you visualize yourself 2600 years back. What it mustve felt like. It made me feel connected to something far greater than myself. It was humbling to know that long before my story began, generations of people walked these same grounds, chasing dreams, solving problems, building communities & an eternal legacy. You’re surrounded by the unknown—stories still buried, mysteries still unsolved, reminders that no matter how much we think we know, there’s always more waiting to be discovered.

There was something powerful about grounding myself at the top of those ancient temples with my son beside me. Sharing that moment with him is a memory I’ll carry forever. History isn’t just something we read about—it’s something we can feel when we allow ourselves to be present.

I’m deeply grateful to the Maya. Their culture, innovation, architecture, astronomy, mathematics, and resilience helped shape the Americas, and the people continue to preserve a rich heritage that lives on today.

Some places change the way you see the world.

Tikal is one of them.

born 2 months premature. i wasnt ready to be a dad. i was young and unsure of where i would end up. but i knew i would always support you and figure it out. i make no excuses. you taught me to break certain negative habits and ideals just by your existence, so i could put you in the best positions to succeed. i thought i was raising you. whole time it was you raising me. i had to be a man FOR ME… for you to become the boy you are now.
