ETA: I am such a dork! I’m holding the wall hanging sideways! 😂 Oh well, I did say I won’t be a perfectionist! 😆🙃. I finished my first ever quilted wall hanging! (It suddenly dawns on me that I’m not quite sure how I’m going to hang this baby but I do have some time to figure it out because Halloween 🎃 decor is first.) This Sewing Notions wall hanging is far from perfect but I’ve already decided I am not going to be a perfectionist quilter. I quilt for enjoyment. 🥰 Thank you Sarah from @citymadequilts 💕🙏🏽 for helping me find fabric that I LOVE & that goes with what I already had at home. Y’all this green fabric with gold, hot pink, orange and dark green speckles!!!! 😍 || Pattern I used is ‘Squared Up’ by @cottonandjoy , purchased at @citymadequilts || Fabric used is 1800

I came back from the my first quilt show all fired up and energized! I pulled out my ‘Strawberry 🍓 Jelly Roll’ quilt (remember that YT vid that Chelsea from @shesewsseams made? I just love her!! 💗)and I finished the binding. I had already done the sewing machine side and I finished the hand sewn side while I watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer. (Anyone else rewatching this after The Emmy’s or is that just me? 🤭😂). I am quite proud of the fact that I bought a soft blanket from Amazon for the back. It’s so soft!! (But it did shed a lot so I still have to run the lint remover through it). Now let’s see if I can finish up my Notions Wall Hanging too! 😬 #newbiequilter #shesewsseams #vampirelover by @craftyfunwitholivia

Olivia’s sewing adventures continue… I did the fabric cutting yesterday for my Notions Wall Hanging (I’ve decided that’s what I’m going to call it). I really enjoyed the process and put some 80s music on while I cut. It doesn’t feel like I should have been as tired as I was by the time I finished cutting, but I was - so I decided to wait for today to sew the squares together. I keep moving the pieces of fabric around to see where the colors combine best - I think I just need to keep going & trust the process. It will be small at only four 10 inch squares. I’m using the Squared Up quilt pattern by @cottonandjoy . (I may ‘need’ to make a full on quilt with this pattern one day because it is very beginner friendly, repetitive and fun). Fabric is a combo of 1800 Notions fat quarters from my Modern Fat Quarter subscription from @fatquartershop and some lovely Speckled Metallic Sarah Green by @rubystarsociety that I purchased yesterday when I visited @citymadequilts for the first time. I finally made it out to @citymadequilts and am so glad I did! I met Sarah - who is so nice and so helpful! (I absolutely love that she likes bright fabrics like I do! 💗 ) The fabric selection was gorgeous and I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of notions. I will definitely be coming back. In the meantime, this is what I got today: some sashing and binding fabric to make a small wall hanging with the 1800 Notions fat quarters I received in my Modern @fatquartershop subscription yesterday. I also got a quilt pattern to use in said wall hanging - that I honestly plan on wing a tad 🤭(wish me luck). I got a little set of Lofi Collection by @rubystarsociety - this was honestly what made me come. I saw it was here on social media. 🤣 I kinda now regret not getting two of these. And some notions that I know will come in handy. All in all I am happy either way my visit and my purchases. DIY Quilt Design Boards! They’re not pretty but they’re mine and I made them with home supplies: recycled cardboard from an Amazon box, leftover fabric and batting and glue. One is 17.5” x 13” and the second one is 16” x 12.75”. All in all I’m happy with them because they get the job done: they hold the quilting pieces in order. 🥰 (I really wanted the Lori Holtz ones but I am trying to be good and, like Nu Shooz says, I can’t wait! 😂 I may yet get the LH ones but for now, these will do.) #oliviassewingadventures #newbiequilter #newbiesewist by @craftyfunwitholivia

I went thrifting with the kiddos today. We found so many treasures - clothing, pokemon, and more. (My son was so happy with his Pokemon stuffy for $1.50!! He came home and washed it right away.) Anyhoo, I found a quilt that I may try and make a quilted jacket from! It’s lilac and white and has clouds on one side and unicorns 🦄 on the other and it’s so soft! I don’t know if I will have enough but we shall see. I also found some modern holiday fabric from Joanne’s and a couple of pieces - that look like placemats but that I can use for Halloween 🎃 makes. Lastly I found a soft purple sweatshirt - I plan to add dresdens to or some sort of quilted pieces or appliqués. I’m becoming a nighttime quilter during staycation. 😂 And look at me leaving my cut up fabric ready for the next block tomorrow. Also, I need to get cracking because I was reminded on the Riley Blake website (go see my story before it disappears) that the next #rbdblockchallenge will be here soon! I have some time off work and I needed a break from the Haunted Hexie Quilt. I thought I had given up on the #rbdblockchallenge2026 but my daughter convinced me to give it another try and I’m so glad she did! Maybe I just didn’t have enough experience before or maybe I was just tired (my day job seriously gets in the way of my hobbies! 🤭😜) but somehow this time around it feels more doable. Maybe I just have the right tools ⚒️ now: my unfinished quilt board (I seriously need to add the border, lol) and the #AlphaClippies I finally got - are making all the difference in the world! Who knew? (probably all the quilters out there! LOL). So here’s my completed Block 5! It’s a bit wonky but I did it! 🙌🏽 I was so excited last night that I began cutting the fabric for Block 6! I am enjoying EPP (English Paper Piecing) way more than I thought I would. Hand sewing is fun y’all! 😃 (see my video clips in stories or in highlights where I’m sewing 🪡 by hand) Cutting and selecting what piece of fabric (fussy cutting) will go where is also so much fun! I just worry it won’t all go together in the end. But if I don’t do it, I will never find out. So onward and upward! Mind you these are not perfect - I just started so I am still learning what works for me, what tools I need, what thread 🧵 to use (or not, as you can see in the pics lol 🤭). And so my journey into making the Haunted Hexie Quilt by @thevintagespool begins with my very first EPP hexagon! This was different for me for sure. EPP uses cardboard (or whatever one chooses to use as the templates) and glue! It was both fun and stressful to choose what to fussy cut. 😂 I’m afraid what I choose won’t go together. But I need to see this through. And I still need to hand sew this Hexie together so I have no idea how long this will take me (1-2 years?) but I like that I will be able to fit one hexagon or two or more into a fairly small amount of time (at least I think so). And, who knows? Maybe it will be done by this Halloween?!🎃🐈‍⬛ 👻 Wish me luck! 💜🖤🧡What is in your Halloween queue? I’d love to know. #hauntedhexiequilt by @craftyfunwitholivia

I had been wanting to make this Ghost 👻 Coin Purse by @rachelsblockparty since last year but Halloween 🎃 came and went so quickly I never had the chance. This year I’m starting early with Halloween makes - especially since it’s my favorite holiday. 💜🖤🧡 As a #newbiesewist I am still building my hardware collection. I only had these big zipper pulls and swivel hooks but since I like the color and how it combines with the fabric, I decided to use them. What do you think?
