Dion Kitson - grew up in Dudley, in the heart of the Black Country and studied at Birmingham School of Art. Incisive, enterprising and laced with sharp wit, Kitson’s artistic practice dissects British class and identity, reshaping its visual hallmarks and traditions across sculpture, installation, film and found objects. Kitson’s work is both playful and provocative, providing a candid account of the everyday and the banality of life. Joe Lycett, comedian, painter and television presenter, writes in his essay for the exhibition catalogue that Kitson “understands the state of our nation better than anyone, and why it is the way it is: funny, and beautiful, and dumb.”

In March we launched our curated collection ‘HAMLET’ at @theharilondon in collaboration with @aspaceforart_com

The curation is on display until 11 September.

HAMLET

A curation that explores the origins of our story; one of passion, admiration, growth and the cohesion that builds community. A selection of artists who are the genesis of our foundation and the journey that continues to unfold.

A small village, usually without a church.

Curated by Christina Zahra of CMJZ Arts

Growing into what we are today wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support and love within our creative community, and we couldn’t be more greatful to be surrounded by such talented and incredible artists and friends.

This curation is a dedication to that and to the way our ‘hamlet’ is growing. There are so many other artists we wish we could have included, but we just didn’t have enough space. But well-nourished hamlets grow into villages, and vibrant villages into cities.

“The Artist’s Choice” is now live.

Last week, I went to the pre-opening of the 61st Venice @labiennale, AKA the erupting volcano, to report for @theartofseeing_magazine. It felt less like an art event and more like a mirror of the planet’s collective nervous system.

First came the devastating death of curator Koyo Kouoh a year ago. Then the political rupture. Protestors questioned the role of institutions during war and humanitarian crisis. The Biennale jury resigned. Artists protested. Pavilions temporarily closed.
And amid all of this, the art felt even more alive.
I wrote about the works and moments that stayed with me most, including the Austrian Pavilion, @alfredojaar at the Arsenale, the Italian Pavilion, Canadian Pavilion, Nordic Pavilion, @chrislevine, and my own light ritual ‘Letter To Earth’ in Venice with @cramerstgallery

Letter To Earth is a light ritual transforming words into light frequencies - projected in the hidden gardens in Venice as part of an evolving global public artwork that began at Tate Modern, London.
As we honour David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, in its essence the letter holds; an apology, a prayer and a call for peace.
The project will continue travelling to sites of environmental, cultural, and spiritual significance across the world, carrying collective messages for the Earth.

Nessa’s Salon of the Unruly brings together artists, music, and culture in an intimate Soho setting, a space to discover, reflect, and connect.

In our latest conversation, we sit down with Leevar Spies to explore a practice rooted in memory. From his upbringing in South Africa to life in London, his work blends colour and texture to capture nostalgia and a deep sense of place, seen in his latest collection, Rooted.

A look back at our Post Human VII panel talk with Sophie Javadi (Thames Carpets), Helen Beard, James Massiah and Tobias Ross-Southall. Hosted by the wonderful Bakul Patki. Exhibited at Cramer St Gallery, Marylebone, London.

We discussed the techniques and concept behind the 100% natural material rugs from northern Iran. In a divided world, this project affirms the power of art to unite. Transcending politics and borders and weaving communities together through a shared vision.
