Fragments of lost masterpieces, uncovered and given new and unnatural life.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As many of you are aware, Rinzlo has once again gone missing after only a brief return to us. Before his most recent vanishing, he was almost manic in his excitement, about something he claimed he was still unable to share. He did, however leave me with this excerpt from Hammond DuPay’s “MASTER & THE DEADLESS” with absolutely zero context.

I know of his fondess for DuPay’s depiction of and appreciation for the life-saving arts, and this book was singular in its keen understanding of the formalities and techniques used therein, but I’m hard-pressed to bridge the gap between this piece and his bout of constant disappearances.

While it became common practice for Donald Collins to directly address the reader, this was the first instance of him breaking the fourth wall and giving us readers an insight into the complexities of the publishing process!

When I first read this as a boy, I had a suspicion that there was a typo here, as Hrato and Rathlin had discussed the FOUR sactica amnioticus” in Dungor Keep for several chapters. I’ll never forget the swell of pride I felt when this note from Collins popped up, and validated my sleuthing!

It’s been a while my fellow fantasy fanatics!

We have only just returned from an extended stay in China, where Ed contracted a mysterious illness from a meal at a local wet market. What brought us to the far East you might ask? Well as it turns out, one of the illustrated maps from the now-outlawed and ultra-rare “Phantomime: Forbidden Diety” (which I was lucky enough to acquire in a flea market in Saskatoon!) is actually a near one-to-one representation of a certain province in China. Suffice to say, even the markings on the map were true-to-form. Not the least of which included the mysterious “X.” What we found there is truly beyond description! But all will be revealed in time. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, I thought I’d share this snippet that stuck with me during my time waiting outside the ICU, as it kept me grounded in the face of much scrutiny by a foreign government. I never leave home without at least one Sir Deegan Stonebooth novelette! This is from chaper 13 of his posthumously published “Tales of the Tenth Dominion.”

From the haunting final pages of F. T. Salisbury’s “EGG,” the first of 8 in the series, this passage was a revelation for me at a time when I learned, only in retrospect, that I should’ve exercised more caution in my own life!

The wonder of reading these masterworks, with their divine fantastical, characters and complex relationships, is that anyone, at any time, can relate these circumstances to their very own! I know I did and I am better for it! -RH

This piece, entitled “Spared” was inspired by my childhood trips to Bruno’s Bowl where, when I was a boy, my mother would force my father to bring me along to his Tuesday night bowling league matches.

Having no interest in the game, I would sidle up at the makeshift deli counter and read! A standout from that time was Nico Plowder’s “Looming Sphere” - a tale of passionate romance set in a world of paranoia and fear, where a terrible soul-devouring orb finds and obliterates those fortunate enough to find true love. I don’t particularly miss this place, with its scent of stale beer and cigarettes, but I felt a bit sad when it was demolished a few years after my father vanished!

Thanks @perryfellow for publishing it! I dont often draw and show it to the world and this inspires me to maybe do a little more!

Something incredible has happened! While struggling to render my own interpretation of a Tugalon, per @cliftocurrency ‘s request, I was contacted by none other than Tabartha Danzig, the grand-neice and lone executor of the estate of famed fantasy illustrator Piotre Juhnsen! She provided this wondrous draft of Piotr’s take on the Tugalon, as apparently he and Pubelle had collaborated early on in their illustrious careers! Wowee!

Notice the long tickling digits, and an early idea of what the throat bones might look like. He even rendered their oft-emphasized milk receptors!

Famed for working with the likes of A.J. Pillory and Cam Donaho, Juhnsen was sadly taken from us back in 1978 while on one of his renowned writing retreats to his lodge in the Swiss Alps. An avalanche was triggered by some mischievous teens in the area, utterly annihilating the lodge, where Juhnsen had been finalizing designs for none other than John Clurtch’s masterpiece Penumbra series!

While Doing research for my own book, I came across this passage from Irwin Pubelle’s “The Tugalon’s Cry” and got some wild new ideas! Always loved Eldo in my youth, and now, Pubelle’s work speaks to me on a new and more profound level!

Ah! While poring through old floppy disks, I came upon the beginnings of a work I started for my senior thesis in college, just before my father contacted the university and had me forcibly removed from the creative writing program. Ive transposed it here into a modern word processor, and think I might follow in the footsteps of the legends like Crain and Brinkler and pick up where I left off with “Banished in Fire”!

Shlimpy! His humble beginnings as “the greatest squire in Yoofa” are a joy to behold in retrospect, knowing that he grows into the mighty knight known simply as “Little Man” in Obi Tantillo’s ultra-graphic LITTLE MAN series!

Found this oddity in a supermarket in Honduras while Ed was finishing up his missionary work. I had no idea that Daniel Book’s now ubiquitous fantasy expletive in “Larf!” was a callback reference to an earlier book!!! Color me pleasantly shocked!
