One of Nottingham’s Most Underrated Boozers 🍻

🙏 God bless the Great British Saturday Morning Ritual. Those waking moments bring euphoric relief, knowing there’s a break in play from the horrors of a working week. And when the world’s your oyster, you make good choices. Hence why I was in Bread And Bitter before midday.

Being married to Nottingham’s fittest foodie means that many Saturdays start with a coffee, descend into a pastry, and then end with a guilt-trip to the gym. But this weekend, I experienced something a little different, utilising my free time to perfection.

It’s frustrating how little time I spend on the ‘other side’ of the A50. I’m sure Gedling has a fine borough council. I’ve no doubt your binmen will dispose of cardboard on green bin day, even if there’s a bit of polystyrene in it. But practically speaking, it’s not quite my neck of the woods.

When I do make the pilgrimage north-east of the city, there’s always one boozer in my crosshairs. Bread And Bitter in Mapperley is a triumph, and pretty much ticks every box on the ‘Great Nottingham Pub’ bingo card. Eyes down looking…

📚 Proper History: This pub used to be a bakery, and you can have a pint next to the decommissioned ovens. Proper USP, that. 
🍺 Local Beer: The homies at @crbrewery have prime real estate at the bar, offering a fine selection of Nottingham-brewed beers. As ever, their Session Pale was bang-on.

🧱 Unique Architecture: We need more mosaics in pubs. We need more hatches in pubs. We need more beer-sign memorabilia in pubs. I’ve found my cause.

📋 Great Taps: Stupendous choice. Alongside your premium brands, there are also 16 cask and craft lines, giving other independent breweries a chance to shine.

🕹️ Something Different: Maybe I’m easily impressed, but their arcade game emulator has dozens of old school classics to play. Sorry love, I’m off for a few jars wi’ ode Sonic.

Blimey. On for a full house. But, because Instagram is run by thickos, this will have to be my last paragraph. Shame, as I really could harp on MUCH longer. Now the onus is on you. Get to Mapperley and go and tip some back in this rudely underrated portal to utopia.
