October’s First Friday is coming up fast, and the district is slated for a busy night of art and entertainment! 🎭🎨

Visit @create__48 from 4-9pm and meet the artists and have a sip and stroll with the Lincoln Artists’ Guild while exploring the various exhibits in the gallery!

From 6:30 - 8:30pm, you can visit @the_gathering_grove for two comedy improv performances by @oh_improv at 6:30 and 7:15pm! Admission is free, and donations are suggested! Each show is different, so see one or both!

Stop by @mojavacafe and enjoy their extended Friday hours with happy hour from 4-6pm!

@lux_center will host a variety of activities from 5-8pm, with openings at two galleries, an Artist-in-Resident open studio with discounts on select works, interactive demos, and you can even paint a pumpkin to take home!

@nwu.art.club will host a student exhibition from 5-8pm at the NWU studio house!

@flatsld at @leighton_district will bring some eats to the district with their First Friday Food Trucks, @worldplates_llc and @streettreatslnk from 5-8pm.

Finally it’s opening night for Underdog: The Other Brontë at @nwutheatre by @create__48

There’s something hiding in Lincoln...and the answer might be right in front of you 👀

By that, we mean that Lincoln Mural Bingo is in full swing, and Uni Place is in on it! 🖼 Our district is home to the highest concentration of murals in the city, a couple of which are on the bingo card!

Grab your bingo card at the @lux_center , and go on the hunt for the trinket boxes at the LUX Center for the Arts and @create__48 outside the murals to fill out your card!

Which murals, you may ask? You’ll have to explore the district and find out! Don’t worry, we’ve given you a couple hints here...but you can also get out and explore all 15 of the Uni Place murals (Mural Maps at the LUX!), and branch out into the rest of the city and see if you can fill your card out. Turn it in at the LUX Center for the Arts or @escapelincoln once you get BINGO for a chance to win a prize! by @create__48

FIRST FRIDAY AT CREATE 48!

We’re excited to welcome the Lincoln Artists’ Guild to Create 48 for a special group exhibition celebrating the creativity, exploration, and artistic community of local artists!

Established in 1920, the Lincoln Artists’ Guild (LAG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging artists’ development at all levels. For more than 100 years, LAG has created opportunities for artists to connect, learn, exhibit, and explore their creative expression.
Their work is centered around four key areas:

Encouragement — supporting artists and craftspeople at every level
Education — workshops, lectures, discussions, and opportunities to learn
Exhibition — creating opportunities for the community to experience visual art
Exploration — encouraging artists to experiment and grow alongside fellow creatives

Come spend First Friday with us, meet some of the artists, explore the exhibition, and celebrate the incredible creative community we have here in Lincoln!

Create 48 is excited to support this campaign as a sponsor because we truly believe in the power of creativity, storytelling, and access to the arts. The illustrations, stories, and creativity that go into every book are a form of art in themselves, and we love being able to support something that brings both art and literacy into children’s homes.

I love that Imagination Library removes a barrier for families by putting a high-quality book directly into a child’s hands every month at no cost to them. Creating that early connection with books can help children build confidence, curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning.

As a business centered around “Spreading Human Creativity,” Create 48 is happy to do what we can to help support this mission and encourage our community to get involved.
Dolly gave us “9 to 5.” We’re using 9/25 to give back. 📚
Create 48 is launching an Imagination 100 campaign with Linked2Literacy, the local partner funding Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for children in Lancaster County.
Our goal is simple: 100 people. $100 each. $10,000 for imagination. That’s enough to provide a full year of monthly books for about 300 local children.

Aiden Weishaar’s installation brings together shifting colors, artwork, and the voices of LGBTQ+ people whose stories are part of American history.

The audio you’ll hear comes from interviews recorded in the late 1980s by journalist and author Eric Marcus for his book Making Gay History. Aiden received permission from Eric to share these digitized recordings, giving visitors an opportunity to hear directly from people who lived through the American LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.

As you move through the installation, take a few moments to slow down. Listen to their stories. Notice how the changing colors affect your perception of the artwork. Consider what happens when we reduce people to assumptions, labels, or a single moment in their lives.

Aiden’s invitation is simple:

“Listen. Come with an open mind and an open heart. That’s it!”

Featuring the voices of Wendell Sayers, Jeanne and Morty Manford, Barbara Gittings, Kay Lahusen, Frank Kameny, Perry Watkins, Edythe Eyde, Sylvia Rivera, Morty Manford, and Vito Russo.

Come experience the installation, spend some time with the work, and practice the art of curiosity.

What a fun Summer Fest this weekend! ☀️🎨

It was so wonderful to see so many community members stop by and literally tie themselves to the neighborhood by adding their thoughts, names, and messages to the construction fencing. 🧡

As University Place continues to grow and change, this interactive project is a reminder that the heart of a neighborhood is its people. We may have construction happening around us for years to come, but the creativity, memories, and connections we build together are what make this place feel like home.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, added a ribbon, shared a thought, or simply took a moment to be part of it. Every little piece helps tell the story of our community. 🧡

Please join us tomorrow for the closing reception of Aurelia Thomas’ retrospective, as we come together to celebrate the extraordinary life, creativity, and artistic legacy of Aurelia.

While we deeply mourn Aurelia’s sudden passing during this exhibition, we feel incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to honor her memory surrounded by the work she so proudly shared with our community.

This exhibition has become something even more meaningful a celebration of Aurelia’s voice, vision, and the beautiful marks she left on the people and creative community around her.
