it’s ok to take 20 years to start your dream right?! I was drawn to the beauty industry by my fascination with hair and skin and the idea of making things fresh and new. l’ve always loved the concept of taking something and refreshing it into something entirely new. It’s like my very soul was speaking to me. I was meant for this. Creating and re-creating. I used to rearrange my room all the time, just because I loved the change. It was exhilarating. Twenty years ago I dropped out of college my junior year (sorry Mom & Dad) to go to Cosmetology school. I knew I was meant for this world.
All my Barbies could vouch for me💇🏼‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️🤣🤣
And even then, I felt such a deep pull into Aesthetics- the idea of a refresh, the relaxing spa environment, and the nurturing care in the human touch. I kept that little dream stuffed back in the corner of my heart and mind. I didn’t know if I could do it. I didn’t think I had what it takes. I let fear talk me out of it. Maybe one day. That’s as far as l’d let my mind go. Then one day you wake up 40. And you start asking yourself big questions. You really start thinking. And while I loved and still love hair (it’s in my DNA) my body was starting to let me know I didn’t have another decade in me. It’s tough being on your feet for so long. And I knew a change needed to happen. This was also the year I decided to get serious about my own skincare. Forty years old will also do that to you and it was during one of my first facials with Olivia @rejuvenatingskinstudio that I felt the dream bubbling back up. Like a long, lost buried treasure chest floating up to the surface. I could feel the yearning deep in my soul. I know it’s cheesy. And this time when the fear came for me, I told it to take a seat. Several seats lol. Still today I have to work to overcome that fear. It says I’m too old, l’m not enough, it won’t work. Maybe that’s also the beauty of being older. You get to this place where you aren’t so worried about failing. You’re more worried you may never try. So here goes! I’m all in! @opalglow.skincare by @created.by.carly
