Ohhh, wat vind ik het spannend om dit te delen! Maar ik heb het gewoon gedaan: ik heb een boek gemaakt! 🥹✨ En daar ben ik stiekem best wel trots op ☺️💕

The book "Dekens Haken" is officially out now!! And one of my blanket designs, Whispering Lotus Blanket, is featured in this beautiful book!

Having one of my designs published in a real-life book is so special. Earlier this year, I published my very own crochet book, "Modern Mozaïek Haken", which was already a huge milestone for me. And now, seeing one of my blankets in another book makes me just as excited!

And… with the book now published, I’ve also added the Whispering Lotus Blanket pattern to my website, Ravelry and Etsy stores!

Whispering Lotus is now available!!

The pattern is ONLY AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH (US terms) in my shops. The Dutch version can be found in the book "Dekens Haken". If you’ve already ordered the book, it will be shipped this Monday.

What is Mosaic Crochet?
It looks intricate, but it’s actually super beginner-friendly, and totally addictive!

✨ You only use ONE color per row.
No yarn switching mid-row, no tangles, just clean lines and big impact.

🧶 How it works:
You alternate back loop single crochets and front loop double crochets to build the pattern.

The front loop double crochets “drop down” into rows below to create bold designs, without complicated colorwork!

Perfect for:

A little reminder to add some color to your crochet.

I know… sometimes it’s much easier to stick to the colors you know you love. But playing around with a new color can be so much fun!

Even just one shade you wouldn’t normally pick can make such a difference. And honestly, crochet is the perfect place to experiment. There are no rules, you can always try something new.

I’m really loving these colors together, and I can’t wait to share the pattern with you. It will be available soon!

Het voelt ineens wel héél echt… ☺️🧶 Het boek Dekens Haken ligt inmiddels bij de drukker!

Op 13 oktober komt het boek uit en daarin staat ook een ontwerp van mij, de Whispering Lotus deken, samen met 7 andere prachtige dekens van 7 fantastische Nederlandse ontwerpsters. Acht ontwerpsters, acht verschillende stijlen en vooral heel veel inspiratie voor heerlijke haakuren. 💕

Voor mijn ontwerp wilde ik iets met bloemen maken dat toch helemaal bij mijn stijl past. Ik combineerde mijn favoriete blauw- en groentinten met een kleur die een beetje buiten mijn comfortzone valt: roze. 🌸 Door de bloemen af te wisselen met banen die doen denken aan gras en water. Een speels patroon, maar met genoeg herhaling om heerlijk ontspannen te haken.

Ik vind het ontzettend bijzonder om mijn ontwerp straks terug te zien in een echt boek. Van een idee en heel veel uurtjes haken naar uiteindelijk een plekje in een boek… zo leuk! 🥰

Overlay Mosaic Crochet vs. Tapestry Crochet

They may look similar, but overlay mosaic crochet and tapestry crochet are worked in very different ways.

Overlay mosaic crochet
🧶 You work with one colour per row.
🧶 You work on the front side only, without turning your work.
🧶 Single crochets are worked in the back loop only, with double crochets worked down into stitches two rows below.
🧶 The unused colour is fastened off at the end of each row.
🧶 The pattern is created by placing stitches on top of the previous rows, creating that beautiful raised, textured effect.

Tapestry crochet
🧶 You usually work with multiple colours within the same row.
🧶 The unused yarn is carried along inside the stitches.
🧶 You change colours within the row to create the design.
🧶 You can work back and forth or in the round, depending on the pattern.
🧶 The result is generally flatter, with the colour changes creating the picture or pattern.

So even though they can create a similar look, the way you build the pattern is completely different.

And yes… you can also combine the two techniques in one project. 😉
