Finding out that “Cowboy Carter” was born from the cold reception (and blatant racism) Beyoncé faced during (and after) her 2016 CMA performance made me look deeper at my own hesitation about exploring country music (despite my southern upbringing and love for much of the instrumental and vocal techniques that color the genre).

A few years ago I began diving more into the Americana genres, and with the help of a dear friend’s father (who is extremely well-versed in these genres), I came to realize that there is so much beauty in the twang of country music if you dare to dig deeper.

Now that it’s the official unofficial last day of summer…l can say this was the most random summer I’ve ever had 😂

For a long time, I’ve been posting less and less of myself on this page and thought I was “letting the work speak for itself.” And eventually, that turned into not even posting the work 🫠

Turns out, I was just hiding 😅

But looking back at my aura photos from the past 5 years, it’s kind of wild to see how much has shifted in me, especially now. I feel like I’m entering a new season creatively, personally, spiritually… all of it.

And I keep coming back to John 1:8 and the idea of not having to be the light, but simply being willing to reflect it.

So I’ve been feeling called to create again, share again, and maybe let myself be seen a little more in the process.

NOTE: This is not about parasocial relationships with celebrities. It’s more about expectations vs reality.

Being attracted to people because of how bright they shine ultimately means that light will illuminate you, too… even the parts of you that are a work-in-progress.

Let’s be real, we have all been taught that love, at times, is performative. But relationships require practice. Not performance.

TLDR: Go talk to the lady before y’all get in relationships (and there’s no harm in keeping a standing appointment after 👀)

Decided to share an unreleased playlist from my personal vault for V-Day. 💕✨

A lot of these songs helped me discover and start to define what I want love to feel like… whether I’m in the thick of it or simply residing in it’s in-between. (And they span from songs I heard my father play for my mother and radio gems that left a mark on me as a child to songs I stumbled upon while in love over the years)
