Before Summer officially ended, I went out to paint this tall sunflower that I would always pass by along @paseoparkqueens
(Good thing I did because it poured like crazy the next day)

Had a lot of fun painting this outside! 🌻

I just finished my first 2 years studying at the @aslnyc and I wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude towards every opportunity I’ve had to paint at this special place 🌟

A place where I’ve found community, where I’ve grown, not only by the portraits I’ve painted but by the wonderful artists that surround me.

Within each painting and every portrait, I’ve learned that you should always be checking your proportions before looking at any details, to check the relationships between shapes and color and to think about what can capture a person’s essence with just a few brushstrokes.

It’s been such a great privilege to study and learn from @ginsburg.max, who is such an amazing inspiration, also from great monitors like @richard_weinstein, @roymendl and @joeminajart and friends like @itsssnor and @diegonmora
Thank you for all that you do!

I’m looking forward to learning so much more, here’s to another year at The Art Students League! 🎨

This week we welcome Damaris Chamorro (@createtheframe), an Ecuadorian illustrator and painter based in Queens. Chamorro uses oil paint and photography to capture the diversity of the community where she lives and her daily observations of working people.

“As I quietly observed ordinary moments, my interest was sparked to create paintings that explore themes of community, nature and identity. Inspired by working people, their labor, as well as a connection to nature on regular walks, I set out to document everyday life,” said Chamorro.

Paseo Park Portraits! 📸

This photo series is a public art installation featuring the work of 6 local photographers, including myself and I’m super grateful to be sharing my work in this community!

My Project, Hands of Paseo Park, documents community events that reflect the culture of Paseo Park, highlighting people that work and take care of the neighborhood space.

Thank you @paseoparkqueens for working on this collaboration with @photoville and @nyc_dotart for your support in making this possible to share with the JH community.

Special shoutout to @nimsaj.chang for curating this installation and Josefina Bahamondes, both for being awesome mentors throughout this photography residency.

📍These photo installations can be seen on 73rd St, 83rd St and 94th St, all along 34th Ave through the end of October!

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re honoring the strength, creativity, and leadership of every woman who drives positive change in our communities.

This global celebration has roots right here in New York, where women marched in the early 1900s demanding fair wages, safer workplaces, and the right to vote. Today, that same spirit of courage and advocacy continues through women who lead, teach, volunteer, and uplift others across our city. 💪

This bouquet drawing is a tribute to you! A special thank you to our incredibly talented digital media intern, Damaris, whose creativity brought this illustration to life. 💐

Because of strong, inspired women, we’re able to expand our impact - through food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, disaster relief and beyond. Women are at the heart of the progress we make each day.
