ABOUT ME 🤍 I’m Gemma, the woman behind HER DIGITAL. We got hacked, and wiped (rude), so we go again. I’ve lived a few lives already. I’ve built things from scratch, lost things I thought I’d never recover from, and rebuilt myself again with my son on my hip, and my heart cracked open in places that still shine. Losing my daughter in 2020 changed everything about me, the way I see life, the way I work, and the way I create. Grief stripped away anything that wasn’t real…and what was left was honesty, depth, soul, and a refusal to do anything half-hearted. Life has been rough at times, but that’s where my voice comes from. That’s where my creativity comes from. I don’t create to look clever. I do it to connect. To say the things people feel but don’t always have words for. When my client first came to me, they wanted a simple, clean line-drawing, something playful, instantly recognisable, and easy to adapt for menus, signage, weekly specials, and ad campaigns. Nothing complicated. Nothing over-designed. Just a character with soul and a bit of a cheeky side. So we started sketching. Potato after potato after potato. Different shapes, different lashes, different little personalities… until she arrived. Miss Potato Head. A character that could carry an identity, fun enough to make you smile, simple enough to fit a minimal brand, recognisable enough to become a foodie favourite. From a rough doodle, to a brand asset, to a fully formed mascot with a life of her own. She’s now on the shopfront, the packaging, the walls, and in the hearts (and camera rolls) of customers. This is the part of branding I love most, the moment a simple idea becomes a story. A character becomes a brand. And a brand becomes a place people remember. Happy International Women’s Month 🤍 I think it’s only fair that the lady writing those absolutely beautiful posts in Women in Business gets a little hijack of her own. Where do we even start with this woman…my best friend, who has overcome more than anyone I will ever meet. You show up every single day for your friends and family, asking for nothing in return. The strength you’ve shown through some of the hardest challenges life can throw at someone is something most people will never fully understand. But anyone who knows you knows just how inspiring you truly are. You are the most incredible mummy to your Nyla and Jimmy. I was on the floor. Lost. Broken. With no will for life as I knew it. There was a lot of heavy energy around me then: anxiety, confusion, and I didn’t have the strength to fight it. I was just trying to survive. It was the most earth-shattering time of my life. And there are days it still shatters me. I used to give everything I could to try and have a deep understanding of others, but losing Nyla taught me how to have a deeper understanding of myself. It’s cliché but she woke me up. And this is why connection matters so deeply to me, and why it's the heartbeat of my business. Because when you’ve been stripped back to nothing, you learn to see people properly. You listen differently. You feel what’s underneath the words. You understand that brands, businesses, and stories are always tied to real humans with real experiences.
