why buy it when you can make it?

forgot to mention in the vo just how important ironing the fabric is after it’s dry to lock in the ink!

step 1: choose a design size. be sure to resize your photo or graphic to the size in inches, digitally. i used canva

step 2: print on the best quality setting. make sure scale is set to 100%!!!

step 3: bathe the fabric in vinegar for 5 min

step 4: sew on dried fabric
and press with a hot iron
and voila!

beginners, behold! 🌟the art of shirring🌟 is for you!!!

here are my shirring road rules

1. Hand-wind your bobbin without stretching it
2. Turn your tension up high & your stitch length to 4
3. Use 2x the width of the fabric you’ll need
4. Mark your shirring lines so they remain straight. The more lines, the more the piece will scrunch up and shrink
5. Shirr your panels before cutting out your pattern pieces
6. But if you’re making a shirt you can hem the bottom first.
7. Sew as normal
8. Iron the piece with lots of steam to give it even more scrunch

Measurements for the pattern pieces are:

BODICE | cut x2
Width: your bust measurement
Length: from your high point shoulder to your waist

SKIRT TIER 1 | cut x2
Width: 1.5x your bust measurement
Length: from your waist to your crotch

SKIRT TIER 2 | cut x2
Width: 1.5x Skirt Tier 1 width
Length: from your crotch to ankle or desired length plus 1 in for hem

answering the most frequent sewing question i get: how the f**k do i sew straight?!

here are 3 tricks that helped me improve my stitch lines

1. mark your seam allowance lines on the fabric it’s WAYYYY more natural for your eye to follow. heat erasable pens are awesome for this

2. tape cardstock to your seam guide plate so you get more surface area and there’s a more tactile bumper to keep your fabric in line

3. hold your fabric on both the front and back for better steering grip. just be sure not to pull or push the fabric at all. your hands are holding not forcing!!

the most intimidating part of learning to sew for me was learning how to thread the machine. every machine is different but these are a few little tricks that will help on any machine esp on getting the bobbin up.
