When the world tells you to shrink, bring all your besties and take over!

BestieFest proved that when you build an event centered on feminine joy and sisterhood, the right people show up and create something magical.

Huge love to every artist, maker, volunteer and bestie who filled that room with love and helped us raise funds for women escaping domestic violence.

A friend once told me about the mothers without a village theory, and it broke my heart.

Because it is so many of us.

We hear it takes a village.
But for so many mothers, that village never arrives.

No grandparents down the road.
No extra hands on the hard days.
No one at the door saying, go rest, I’ve got them.

So she does something quietly extraordinary.
She becomes the village herself.

The comforter in the night.
The planner who forgets nothing.
The snack maker, the problem solver, the safe place.
She holds the whole world together with threads no one else even sees.

And most days, she does it with no applause.
No backup.
Just love strong enough to stretch across every role.

But here is the part that broke my heart, and then changed it.

She was never meant to carry a village on her own.
That was never her weakness.
It was the setup.

And the setup can change.

Because a mother was never meant to be the whole village.
She was meant to have one.

That is what we are building.
Elders, women, shared hands, a fire big enough for all of us.
Not one woman being everything.
All of us, holding each other.

This is the Red Thread Festival. The village, remade.

So many magical mems!! When we first started talking about putting BestieFest together it really came from this desire to create a room that felt completely safe and soft and full of feminine joy. That uninhibited, playful girlhood feeling of dancing and laughing and not having to have your guard up.

Looking around the room and seeing that actually happen and seeing people trading numbers, hyping each other’s outfits up, supporting our incredible local makers, and screaming lyrics along to an all-women and gender-diverse lineup that completely blew the roof off the place… we are just so deeply, deeply overwhelmed with gratitude.

And the fact that we got to experience all of that joy while raising money for @thread_together to help women and kids escaping domestic violence access a fresh start it just means everything to us.

Our community showed up in the biggest, kindest way. Massive massive love to every single artist who poured their heart out on that stage, every stallholder who brought their magic into the room, the wonderful team at @kissmy.brass for holding down the fort and taking such good care of us, and every single person who bought a ticket, danced until late, or just brought the warmest energy into that space. You made it what it was!
