Creativity connects us - across ages, cultures and communities.

A shared creative experience can bring together tamariki, rangatahi, adults and kaumātua. It can create opportunities to share stories, traditions, skills and different ways of seeing the world.

Whether it’s through weaving, music, dance, painting, carving, storytelling, craft or simply making something together, creativity gives us a common space to connect.

And that connection matters for our mental health.

Feeling connected, included and part of a community can support our sense of belonging and overall hauora. Creative spaces can give us somewhere to kōrero, learn from one another, express ourselves and build relationships across generations and cultures.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the power of creativity to bring people together.

Mental Health Top Up Grants are open now. If you have a creative project that supports mental health, wellbeing and connection in your community, this could be an opportunity to bring it to life.

APPLY HERE - https://topupcommunitygrants.grantplatform.com/

Need help with your funding application? Get in touch with the Creative Northland team - we’re here to support you.

👀 In world where we need to turn the stereo down to find the right letterbox number when we’re looking with our eyes not our ears tells us that we are processing far more than we think we are every day….

Stopping to take a moment to be creative is a key that might be sitting in your pocket that you’ve forgotten about or never knew was there. 🔑 Or perhaps you’ve deemed it not useful because the key is not very “pretty”.

No matter what your artwork looks like you deserve a moment of calm and creativity for yourself!

Lenny and Nyree have been SPEED DATING this week! 😍
Well… not quite! 😂 But they have certainly been spreading the love for the CREATIVE INDUSTRIES! 🎨🎭🎶

Our awesome duo headed along to Bream Bay College's Speed Meet event, connecting with over 150 students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13!

It was a HUGE day of quick conversations, big ideas and plenty of creative energy! ⚡

Lenny and Nyree were there flying the flag for the creative sector, sharing just how many exciting career pathways exist across the arts, design, music, performance, digital media and beyond.

Because creativity isn't just a hobby – it's an industry, a career and a future full of possibilities! 💡

A massive thank you to Bream Bay College for the opportunity to connect with the next generation of creative thinkers, makers and innovators.

Who knows… we may have just met some of Tai Tokerau's future creative superstars! 🌟

It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and what better way to celebrate than getting creative, connecting with others and having a little fun along the way!

Yesterday Lenny and Nyree attended the Wellbeing Expo at Raumanga Campus, representing Creative Northland and bringing some colourful creativity to the day! 🌈

Students and staff got stuck into umbrella painting and creating beautiful Mexican Stars (Ojo de Dios), sharing plenty of laughs, conversations and creative moments along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to get involved! It was wonderful meeting so many lovely people and reconnecting with some familiar faces, including Alejandra and Paulette!

💚 A little reminder this Mental Health Awareness Week: Taking time to create, connect and do something you enjoy can be a wonderful way to support your mental health and wellbeing.

✨ We'd love to know — what are YOU doing to top up your wellbeing this week? Whether it's getting creative, spending time in nature, catching up with friends or simply taking a moment for yourself, share your ideas in the comments! 👇

Creativity brings people together.

Joining a workshop, singing in a group, creating alongside friends, sharing stories or learning a new skill can help us build relationships and feel more connected to the people around us.

For Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re celebrating creativity not just for what we make, but for the connections, conversations and sense of belonging that can happen along the way.

Sometimes the most valuable part of creating is simply creating together.

Check out The Community for a range of free and low cost creative groups you can join right here in Tai Tokerau - https://thecommunity.co.nz/events/region/Northland/
