I’m excited to share this post. 🥳It’s been on my bucket list to finalize this project for a while. Yep, it’s the Fall Ya’ll (lol) 🍂🍁🍃and I just love saying that! 🥰😁Time for some amazing autumn colors coming together to create the most enjoyable and beautiful compositions. Today I introduced Printmaking 101. (Long Post) Memory Lane 🌸
My youngest daughter, Hannah was diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2012. I left teaching as a full- time public school art teacher and immediately started homeschooling her. I wanted to learn how to properly connect to her new world and understand this new journey. During those years prior to her diagnosis I worked with hundreds of children with autism and developmental & intellectual disabilities who loved my art classroom. The problem was that I had no experience or training what so ever and no professional development training was ever given. So I would basically modify my lessons the best way I could to meet the needs of all students and this was definitely a challenge and often impossible. Overcrowded classrooms, rushed class periods, behavior issues, and lack of administrative support was always the present. During my homeschooling years I learned about art therapy, art adaptations, and individualize and differentiated instruction. Each child is indeed unique and has a very special creative gift from God. I believe my purpose is to help bring that out of children, teens, and adults( especially those with disabilities). Art allows them to connect with the word around them, build self- confidence, increase tactile and kinesthetic awareness, improve eye-contact and expand attention spans and so much more. I am told that things are a little different these days for teachers and I’m so thrilled that many are receiving the proper training and the support that his vital to have great outcomes for all types of learners. As for me, I had to seek training outside of the public school system and then my art program was soon birthed during this season. Hannah loves being creative and making all types of art. She’s pretty good at it. The numerous students that I serve through my art organization, Aesthetically Artistic- AFTH also love art time and they are super talented and very special to me. I am committed to giving them quality, patience, my expertise, and love because they, just like my daughter Hannah deserve to be seen, heard, and highlighted. I love what I do. Abstract art making is always a fun session for student. It’s a wonderful time to just be free and allow your mind to wander off into your own creative imagination. Creating forms that are truly from the heart and combining vibrant colors and fun shapes just makes the whole process the best ever!
