Fam! We have the honor of hosting organizer, designer, professor, and author Omari Souza to Columbus to discuss his new book “Design Against Racism: Creating Work That Transforms Communities.” In conversation with Marshall Shorts.

This is about the choices we make every day as designers, the systems we either reinforce or repair, and the futures we refuse to imagine or dare to build.
Souza writes: “To design for liberation, we must first unlearn compliance.” That’s the work. And we’re building the space to do it together.

We’re excited to announce a unique opportunity!! Join Artfluential for an a special meet and greet evening as we welcome some of the authors and contributor of ‘An Anthology of Blackness: The State of Black Design’ to #Columbus. Tomorrow April 11, 2024 5:30p - 7:30p

Curated and Edited by Omari Souza ( @omari.souza ) and Teressa Moses ( @projectnaptural ) An Anthology of Blackness examines the intersection of Black identity and practice, probing why the design field has failed to attract Black professionals, how Eurocentric hegemony impacts Black professionals, and how Black designers can create an anti-racist design industry. Contributing authors and creators demonstrate how to develop a pro-Black design practice of inclusivity, including Black representation in designed media, anti-racist pedagogy, and radical self-care. Through autoethnography, lived experience, scholarship, and applied research, these contributors share proven methods for creating an anti-racist and inclusive design practice.

The contributions in An Anthology of Blackness include essays, opinion pieces, case studies, and visual narratives. Many contributors write from an intersectional perspective on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and ability. taken in Artfluential by @creativecontrolfest

#TBT YOOO! 10 years ago to the day we had our first Creative Control Fest. We set out to put on #fortheculture and create a conference that centered, highlighted, and recognized #BlackCreatives and called some friends to help make it happen. We didn’t know what we were doing but knew we wanted to give US a platform. So much has changed but there is still much work to do.

BlackCreatives are still the life blood of #popculture an #creative industry but are still in many ways on the margins of its benefit.

We are grateful for the growth and the many people who saw the vision before #BlackCreatives was even a common term. Sincerely THANK YOU!

More to come but for now WE MISS YALL! See y’all soon! #CCF2023

The celebration continues in November with an Opening Night presentation of Black Panther: #WakandaForever (2022), the next chapter in the story of #Wakanda following King T’Challa’s death.

#OpeningNight is presented by Creative Control Fest with Maroon Arts Group, Zora’s House. Your ticket includes popcorn and soda, and an invite to the happy hour at 5:30PM.

Black Gesso is a new visiting artist collaboration between Maroon Arts Group, @creativecontrolfest , and @artfluential_ . This series will include talks, discussion, and cultural exchange between Black creatives, thinkers, and practitioners across disciplines and cities in order to examine, shape, and grow our collective community while strengthening access to Black cultural production in Central Ohio.

So join us for a special premiere of #TheWomanKing presented by Maroon Arts Group, Zora’s House, Creative Control Fest, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Columbus Alumnae Chapter. Every great movie starts with a pitch. Pitching your idea to execs and investors is 1/3 of the business. We are looking for filmmakers of all genres to pitch their short film ideas (in the pre-production phase) to our competition.

First: Submit a 45 word logline of your short film and upload 2 minute pitch video. Engage us in any genre!

Next: Our CBIFF 2022 jury class will choose the top 3-5 pitch entrants and they will be invited to Power; CBIFF’s 6th Annual film festival to perform their pitch live.

Finally: The winner of the competition will work with Gravitate to work create a polished pitch to send to investors, up to $1000 in production consulting with Amachi Yah Films and $500 dollars for production costs.

In the fall the winner will have their film premiere at Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse.

Full of gratitude for our growth individually and collectively since 2012. When we started #CCF we had no idea what we were doing. No money, no sponsors, no venue, and no idea if anyone would show up. What we did have was a dope village, creativity, courage, and the desire to see change in the creative class. This was 10 years ago and since then our creative village has grown across the world. Not too bad for some #MidwestKids . We’re still creating and building and we aren’t done! Thank you to everyone that has hung out, bought tickets, traveled, donated, sponsored, believed and supported us through the years. We took a chance and now #wethecreatives are everywhere. Enjoy this little trip down memory lane.

Calling creatives! We’re building something. Excited to finally share We’re doing a virtual Un-Summit featuring legendary artist #EmoryDouglas

We The Creatives is a virtual half-day learning community that includes workshops, lectures, art making, and performances engaging the role of art, #design, cultural strategy, and cultural production in activism and movement. This space is where creatives come together to learn and practice collective visioning to create a new world.

It will culminate in a lecture, masterclass, and discussion with world-renowned revolutionary artist Emory Douglas, former Minister of Culture for the #BlackPantherParty . Douglas will share a historical retrospective of his artwork created as a member of the Black Panther Party and his continuing socially conscious work.
