‼️Update: Unfortunately, little McCoy was to the point of no return and I had him (oops) compassionately euthanized so that he wouldn’t suffer. I cried like a baby but the vet assured me it was the kindest thing I could do for him. Thank you to everyone who generously donated to his care. At least he knew love for the past two days ❤️ - Well, my big heart has gotten me into another expensive situation. 🫠😂 While I was in West Virginia this weekend riding the Hatfield-McCoy trails, my friend Osie came across a tiny kitten in pretty rough shape. Naturally, she named her McCoy. 🥹 She is covered in fleas and filth, severely underweight, and her little eyes are crusted shut and filled with puss. Of course, I couldn’t just leave her there, so she came along for the ride home. Unfortunately, about three hours from home, McCoy started to decline, and I had to make an unexpected stop at an emergency vet. Because apparently rescuing a kitten in the mountains wasn’t enough adventure for one weekend. 😩 I know this year has been financially difficult for so many of us. Trust me, I get it. I’m just barely getting back on my feet myself, and an emergency vet bill was definitely not in the budget. But I couldn’t keep driving knowing this little girl was suffering without at least trying to help her. If you’re in a position to spare a few dollars toward her care, I would be incredibly grateful. And if you’re not, I completely understand. Even sharing this post would mean a lot. Today would've been my mom's 66th birthday. ❤️ Instead, I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that it's been almost FIVE YEARS since I last spoke to her. My mom died just 32 days after my dad. Both were only 61. And losing BOTH of your parents within a month will change your perspective on some shit REAL quick. I talked to my mom ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. My dad called constantly too, but never for me. 🤣 He wanted to talk to HIS boys. And despite living almost an hour away, he'd somehow always manage to "just be in the area." Those calls and random visits used to annoy the HELL out of me. Now I'd give ANYTHING for just one more. When my parents died, the organization I'd given THIRTEEN YEARS of my life to gave me three bereavement days for each parent. SIX. FUCKING. DAYS. To plan two funerals, handle two estates, support my children, and somehow process losing both of my parents. And THAT taught me something. STOP sacrificing your life for people who don't give a fuck about what's happening OUTSIDE of their business. Your employer can replace you. Your clients can find another service provider. The work will continue. But the people who love you? They don't get another YOU. TAKE THE PTO. Log off at 5. Go on the vacation. Show up for your kids. Answer your parents' calls, even when they JUST called you. 🤣 And for the love of GOD, GET YOUR AFFAIRS IN ORDER. I don't care how young you are. Get a will. Check your beneficiaries. Have the uncomfortable conversations. Don't leave your family to figure everything out while grieving you. And listen, I'm STILL working on taking my own advice. I struggle to unplug and put work down too, even after everything I've experienced. But I'm trying. Because one day, those ordinary moments you barely thought twice about might be the ones you'd give ANYTHING to have back. MAKE THE FUCKING MEMORIES. Not the regrets. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mommie. Let’s give people their flowers while they can still smell them. 💐 There are A LOT of people who have played a role in my growth, but there’s one person I genuinely don’t think I’d be where I am today without. @sarawithoutanh ❤️ Back in January 2021, Sara saw something in me that I absolutely DID NOT see in myself and convinced me to speak at a @districtblissevents summit. Y’all. I had never spoken ANYWHERE. No brand photos. No lead magnet. Hell, I didn’t even have an email list. 😂 But Sara walked me through it, talked me down from more than one “WTF am I doing?!” spiral and made me believe I could actually do it. Almost six years later, I’ve done DOZENS of speaking engagements and will happily yap about marketing and business to anyone willing to listen. Look what you started, Sara. 😂 But what I’m most grateful for isn’t the speaking opportunities, referrals, collaborations or connections. It’s her. Sara has shown up for me over and over again. With advice, encouragement, referrals and the occasional…well maybe a little more than occasional lol shoulder to cry on. She’s brilliant, kind as hell and genuinely gives a damn about people. And somehow, after almost six years of friendship, we barely have any pictures together. 😂 Every time we see each other, it’s a hug followed by HOURS of talking and laughing. Then one of us gets halfway home and realizes… “Damn. We didn’t take a picture AGAIN.” 😂 Honestly, I think that says a lot about our friendship. She has no idea I’m posting this. She’s actually living her best life without me, which…rude. 😂 But I don’t think Creative Gravity OR Devin, the person, would be where we are today without Sara. So these are your flowers, friend. 💐 Thank you for seeing something in me before I knew how to see it in myself. 10 years married. ❤️ This week feels like a pretty accurate picture of what life looks like when two entrepreneurs build a life together. I’m in Orlando capturing content for a conference, and we turned it into a little family trip. Q had to fly home early this morning because he has a wedding to cater tomorrow. Last night, he went downstairs to grab us a snack and came back with desserts, macarons, cheesecake and a mini bottle of champagne so we could celebrate our anniversary before he left. 🥹 And THIS is Qwante. It wasn’t some grand anniversary gesture (which, of course, he already had covered 😂). It was him realizing he wouldn’t be here today and making sure we still had our moment. After ten years, I’ve learned that a life with someone is built on thousands of those little moments. This has also been one of the hardest years of my life. Business has been hard. I’ve had moments when I couldn’t carry my own finances the way I always have. I was deemed permanently disabled, which was a massive blow for someone as fiercely independent as I am. Through all of it, I’ve never had to wonder if I was going to be okay. When I can’t carry something, he does. When my body won’t cooperate, he adjusts. When I’m overwhelmed, he makes life softer. And somehow, even while covering the needs, he still makes room for the things that simply make me happy. He’s always ten steps ahead, thinking about what I need before I even realize I need it. I’m incredibly grateful for the life you’ve given me and my children. And I know my dad left this earth knowing I was in the best possible hands. I know he’d be so damn proud of you, Q. Thank you for loving me, providing for me, taking care of me, making me laugh, drying my tears, and making the hard seasons feel a little less heavy.
