Sometimes things don't pan out the way you want them to... Sometimes the risk feels greater than the reward... But through it all there is still a valuable lesson to learn.

Being creative takes SACRIFICE:

Sacrificing SLEEP... choosing the work, the idea, or the opportunity when your body says rest.

Sacrificing FINANCIAL SECURITY... investing money, taking risks, and sometimes choosing the creative path before the financial payoff is guaranteed.

Sacrificing TIME... giving up weekends, free time, vacations, and moments with people you love to build something meaningful.

Sacrificing COMFORT... stepping into uncertainty, rejection, failure, and uncomfortable situations because growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone.

Sacrificing VALIDATION... continuing to create when nobody is watching, supporting, or understanding the vision yet.

When the focus of sacrifice shifts from what you're losing to who you are becoming... SACRIFICE becomes worth it... because by investing in yourself, your creativity and your growth, you ultimately create a better version of yourself and a better world for the people and community around you.

Being on the road with @mogafamilyband I made sure to enjoy every moment as it presented itself.

@dekarjustus and @theowenfader brought all the creative curiosity to the table with this one!! With a little free time and beautiful scenery we definitely made sure to spend our time wisely.

Creative genius is usually born somewhere between creative wonder and questionable decision-making. 😂

Nobody ever made it to the other side of the pond in one effortless leap. Every great idea comes with a little risk, a little struggle, and sometimes a photographer who looks at the situation and says, “Yeah… I’m definitely getting this shot.” 😂

This day was packed with creative wonder, curiosity, and a healthy sprinkle of “How are we actually going to pull this off?”

For everyone wondering how this magical day happened, here’s a little video to reveal some of the mystery behind the madness.

Thankfully, @dekarjustus and @theowenfader made it safely to the rock and back without any issues with their equipment.

A day off on tour sounds like the perfect excuse to do absolutely nothing.

Naturally… I did the opposite. 😂

Surrounded by this much beauty, there was no way I was leaving the camera in the bag.

So @theowenfader and @dekarjustus threw out the idea of creating a little creative duo set by the water.

Minimal gear. Beautiful location. No real plan.

Which, as any creative person knows, is usually where the trouble begins. 😂

And thus begins the story of “Creative Sacrifice.”

Sometimes pushing the boundaries for the sake of the craft comes with a few… consequences. But that’s part of the magic. The best creative moments don’t always come from playing it safe.

Sometimes you get the shot.
Sometimes you get the story.
And sometimes you get both… plus a minor inconvenience you definitely didn’t plan for.

Either way, there’s something special about creating simply because you love creating...not because there’s a client, a deadline, or a paycheck attached to it.

Because sometimes the best investment you can make in the business is simply making something worth remembering.

There’s something about spending a summer on the road with a band that changes the way you see your place in the world.

I’ve watched this band take flight on stage, pouring everything they have into the moment, then step offstage and become people again...tired, homesick, frustrated, laughing, figuring life out together. I’ve eaten with them, shared stories, witnessed the arguments, the breakthroughs, the quiet moments, and the chaos in between.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like the person behind the camera.

They made me feel like family.

And that means something when I’m struggling to understand my own worth and where I fit in this creative world.

I love what I do. I’ve sacrificed a lot to keep doing it. But there are moments when the doubt creeps in...when I question whether photography is enough, whether I’m making an impact, whether I belong here at all.

Then I remember the road.

I remember why I picked up the camera in the first place. I remember the moments I’ve been trusted to witness and the stories I’ve been allowed to preserve.

The band is fighting to keep their music alive. I’m fighting to keep my creative life alive.

Maybe we’re not so different.

When something matters, you don’t walk away just because it gets hard. You find a new perspective. You adapt. You grow. You have the uncomfortable conversations. You figure out what needs to change....and then you keep showing up.

Because they’ve spent this summer fighting for their dream.

And I’ve spent this summer realizing that maybe I’m supposed to fight for mine, too.

Not because I have everything figured out.

But because somewhere along the road, these people made me feel like I belong.

And sometimes that’s enough reason to keep going.

Last month I had the honor to hop on the road with @mogafamilyband and wander around northern California. I had never made it to any of the places we went so it was fun to get to experience all the things with some really cool people!

I was so caught up in the moment that I chose not to focus on posting and it was so worth it. I know we live in a world where people want to constantly share what they've done in the exact moment that it happened.... But I'd rather let that moment exist for me first before I share it with others.

I am happy to now share some of these special moments and let you see what stuck out to me!

When YOU TELL US that you drove more than two hours or even flown all the way here to catch the show is the the ultimate affirmation. Our family is growing and we just added the @crazylikeahorse family in the list.
